We’ve all come across the “whizz” managers who’d try their best to turn the scenario according to their whims and fancies without taking a broad look at the work conditions. Turning itsy-bitsy procedures into mammoth tasks without getting a hang of the work culture is another means for them to prove their loyalty to the organization.

But what comes across, as a matter of fact, is that the hiring organization is at the greater risk of losing revenue and even efficient manpower at hands of such “micro-managing” executives. This Reddit story which went viral has been successful in addressing the involvement of a “micro-managing” executive who called for the need for extra 2000 manhours when for over 10 years it never did.
The user u/The_jaan posted about the detrimental nature of the highflier mentality which goes about amongst the managing executives who have nil experience in the operations of a certain organization. The post reads, “Our working time in the company ends at 4 pm. I work here for 4th year and since my first day, it was normal that people clock out at 4:00. Guys on the production floor usually shut down their machines around 3:30, clean the station and go to showers and change into normal clothes to be ready to clock out at 4.”

“Recently we got a new factory manager from an HQ. Damn how he flipped when he found out people stop working 30 min early to clean their stations and change clothes. He called a big meeting and told us (middle guys) to tell people that 4 pm time is not the time to leave but to stop working,” he writes further describing the new rules getting pushed by the executive.

Adding about the consequences, the post read, “Today the new manager find out that over 100 people will have 20hr OTs and gotta dish out nearly 40,000 extra on salaries, while there is not enough production work to cover it because all the machine cleaning and showering was done past regular clocks and cannot be counted towards production, but as utility hours, which employees were generous enough before to fit them into regular hours thanks to filling daily goals bit early.”

The post concludes with the elevated situation after the extremely overlooked measures taken up by the headquarters executive who was now answerable for all the increased manhours which the company never needed for over 10 years of its existence.

The post is an eye-opener on many aspects which not only helps us analyze the unpleasant exchange of commands at the workplace but also the utmost need to make decisions keeping in mind the operations of any said organization for better development. The need for unionization of workers at the workplace was also emphasized by the user to avoid such circumstances at the workplace.
