Tina Turner has suffered many health issues in the past. Despite it all, she celebrates her 80th birthday with a healthy body and a happy mind.
Tina Turner is an iconic face from the 1960s. Over the years, her soulful music and glamorous personality have made her one of the best musicians and performers in the world. After more than a decade of entertaining the masses, the singer celebrated her 80th birthday on November 26, 2019.
According to People, the legendary singer and actress took to social media to celebrate her milestone. Looking healthy and cheerful, the singer posted a special birthday video message on Twitter. She said, "Yes, I’m 80. How did I think I would be at 80? Not like this."
"How is this?" said Turner laughing. "Well, I look great, I feel good, I’ve gone through some very serious sicknesses that I’m overcoming. So it’s like having a second chance at life. I’m happy to be an 80-year-old woman."
Her message excited her fans and many wished the singer a lovely birthday. Celebrities too joined the public in wishing her. Ringo Starr, Pete Townshend, Cher, Missy Elliott and the Broadway cast of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical were some among the big names who sent their good wishes to the singer in videos and tweets. "Tina is incredible. Happy birthday, Tina Turner! Peace and love," said Starr reported People. "We Celebrate your 80th today! It’s so IMPORTANT for us to KNOW OUR HISTORY in music because of artist like #TinaTurner who KICKED DOWN DOORS & left them open for artist like MYSELF & MOST of your FAVS," wrote singer Missy Elliott.
Speaking to Rolling Stones just days before turning 80, the singer said, "As I’m about to turn 80, I’d like to think I’ve become wise in some ways. Earlier in November, the singer also surprised the audience during the opening night of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical on Broadway. "This musical is my life but it’s like poison that turned to medicine. I can never be as happy as I am now," said the singer.
Turner's birthday comes after she revealed the number of health complications she suffered over the years. In her recent memoir My Love Story, the singer revealed the devastating news of her suffering a stroke in 2013. Three years later, she was also diagnosed with intestinal cancer. With deteriorating health, she was eventually faced with kidney failure. However, Turner was lucky to have her husband and longtime love Erwin Bach by her side. Erwin donated his kidney to Turner and the ill singer went through a transplant operation.
Remembering her medical battle, the singer wrote, "I know that my medical adventure is far from over. But I'm still here — we're still here, closer than we ever imagined. I can look back and understand why my karma was the way it was. Good came out of bad. Joy came out of pain. And I have never been so completely happy as I am today."
Turner's life was not easy and the artist has gone through some tough times. However, she has braved through those circumstances and has managed to accomplish a skyrocketing career and a happy personal life.
