Tiger Woods Hospitalized With Severe Leg Injuries After Serious Car Crash

The officials stated that the golfer was conscious when first responders arrived at the scene of the accident.

Golf legend Tiger Woods met with a serious accident on 23 February 2021 near Los Angeles. According to People, the 45-year-old's 2020 Genesis GV80 SUV rolled over, while he was traveling northbound and downhill on Hawthorne Boulevard.

L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva stated that the accident took place on the border of Rolling Hills Estates at around 7:12 a.m.

According to Villanueva, the car crashed into a sign and "traveled several hundred feet from the center divider." The car went on to hit a tree and then landed in the brush, off the road. The authorities informed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Deputies that arrived at the scene of the accident had to extricate the golfer with the help of a pry bar and ax.

"He was alive and he was conscious, and that's the extent of that. There was no evidence of impairment," informed Villanueva, alluding to his Woods' condition when he was rescued from the scene of the crash. However, Woods suffered serious injuries.

"It was brought to my attention that he had serious leg injuries and that was assessed at the incident. There were no other life-endangering injuries to my knowledge," said L.A. County Fire Department Chief Daryl L. Osby.

L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy Carlos Gonzalez, who was the first to arrive at the scene stated that Woods "was not able to stand under his own power."

Gonzalez stated, "He was able to speak to me. At that time, he seemed as though he was calm and lucid. I spoke to him. I asked him what his name was. He told me his name was Tiger, and at that moment, I immediately recognized him." He added, "It is very fortunate that Mr. Woods was able to come out of this alive," Gonzalez said.

Following the rescue operation, Woods was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. According to CNN, Woods is known to have suffered from compound fractures in his legs. A statement from the golfer's Twitter account confirmed that he had to go through a "long surgical procedure." The statement also clarified that the sports star went through "significant orthopedic injuries."

Meanwhile, authorities stated that the accident is under investigation. They said that the weather had no role to play in the crash. Villanueva noted that Woods was driving at "relatively greater speed than normal" through the curved accident-prone area.

In light of the accident, Woods' agent Mark Steinberg released a statement saying, "Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries. He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support."

The PGA tour also issued a statement in regard to the accident and said they were waiting for more information on the golfer's condition.
