Texas Sheriff Deputy’s 10-Year-Old Daughter Was Among Victims Of The Uvalde Shooting | “We Had No Idea This Was Goodbye”

He was seen hugging his wife for support after getting the news that his daughter was among the victims of the shooting.

Among the 19 children killed in the Uvalde shooting, a Texas sheriff deputy's daughter was one.

A terrifying photograph recorded the moment Felix Rubio responded to Tuesday's school shooting and was informed that his daughter was among the victims. He was shown hugging his wife Kimberly for comfort after learning that their beloved daughter Lexi, 10, had died.

Rubio's face was etched with agony as he sought to console his wife. Even more tragically, he'd proudly posed with Lexi only hours before her death. She'd gotten a certificate for being on the honor roll at Robb, and she'd smiled proudly with her parents for a photo that was the last one they would take together, reports Daily Mail

Lexi received the All-A honor roll and the school's good citizen award at the celebration, according to her mother, Kimberly, in a Facebook post. She wrote, "My beautiful, smart, Alexandria Aniyah Rubio was recognized today for All-A honor roll. She also received the good citizen award. We told her we loved her and would pick her up after school. We had no idea this was goodbye."

Felix also talked to CNN while visibly distressed on Wednesday, calling for gun control measures to help prevent other parents from losing their children. He said, "All I can hope is that she's just not a number. This is enough. No one else needs to go through this. We never needed to go through this, but we are." He added, "I've had enough with guns. I don't want my daughter's name to be just another name."

When asked what concerns he would like to see rectified in the aftermath of the shooting, he said, "Violence, guns. I'm a cop. I'm a deputy here in Uvalde County. This is enough." In a text message to CNN, Lexi's parents said that she was, "kind, sweet, and appreciated life. She was going to be an all-star in softball and had a bright future whether it’s sports or academic. Please let the world know we miss our baby."

Lexi's aunt established a GoFundMe campaign in reaction to her untimely passing to assist her parents in their time of need. According to Lt. Christopher Olivarez of the Department of Public Safety, the gunman barricaded himself inside a single classroom, where most or all of the 19 students and two instructors were killed.

The unidentified agent who shot and killed Salvador Ramos is thought to be from the Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC), which has specialist personnel spread around the country. The BORTAC agent, whose identity is still unknown, stormed inside the school without waiting for assistance.
