Sylvester Stallone left his then-girlfriend, Jennifer Flavin for Janice Dickinson and the child he thought was his.
Some events in life come unexpectedly. While some of them might be a great joyful surprise, others can break your heart. Very few have the power to make you feel both, though probably not at the same time. Getting the news that you are going to have a baby is one of them.
Sylvester Stallone got the same news one fine day. And he broke up with his current girlfriend after he was told he had fathered a child with an earlier girlfriend.
Stallone was dating Jennifer Flavin who was 19 years younger than him, after his share of broken relationships in 1988. The Rambo actor was going through a bad time and meeting Flavin felt like a breath of fresh air to him.
He started "loving life again" and life seemed to look more delightful. They started spending time with each other and the love birds gushed about their magical love.
"When we come together, it is wonderful. When we are separate, there are no strings attached. That’s the way it is. No strings," said the actor, according to People.
However, life turned upside down for the couple when former supermodel, Janice Dickinson entered their life. Though Flavin had heard about her partner's infidelities, she believed him. She never imagined him to cheat on her. But her expectations went down the drain when she received Stallone's letter via FedEx stating he had to break up with her. Flavin was heartbroken. Soon, she heard the actor had fathered a child with Dickinson.
The former supermodel was pregnant and claimed that Stallone was the father of her daughter. In her autobiography, No Lifeguard On Duty, Dickinson stated Stallone was surprised at first. He expressed his doubts and asked her, "How do you know it's not Michael Birnbaum's?" according to Mirror Online.
The woman stated that she had relations with Stallone and another artist while being in a relationship with film producer Michael Birnbaum. Though she was not sure, she felt Stallone was the father.
"Well, I didn't - in fact, it could even have been the artist's - but in all honesty, deep down, I felt the child was Sly's," said Dickinson, according to Mirror Online.
She added, "Things hadn't been going well with Michael for some time, and we split up later that week when I came clean about Stallone," she revealed and continued,
"But Sly didn't call, as I had expected him to, and a week later I discovered I was pregnant. I called Sly and went over to see him. We had supper and made love - he'd improved considerably since our brief debut. Then I told him I was pregnant."
After being informed of the news, Stallone decided to be by Dickinson's side. Her daughter, Savannah was born and Stallone helped the model get back to work just a month after the pregnancy. "Six weeks after Savannah's birth in 1994, and with the help of Sly's exercise and vitamin regime, I got back in shape and walked down the catwalk for Versace," said Dickinson, according to the Daily Mail. By then, Stallone and Dickinson were engaged for 6 months.
Everything was going smoothly until the paternity test results came out. On the day of the Versace show, Stallone came to know he was not the baby's biological dad.
"It was a great success - but as I walked down the runway for the final time, I realized Sly had left his seat. I found him back at our hotel. He didn't look happy," stated the model, according to Mirror Online.
On reaching the hotel, she found an unhappy man. "'She's not mine. I just heard from the DNA lab in Long Beach. Savannah's not mine. Send my regards to Mr. Birnbaum' - and with that, he stood up," recalled Dickinson.
The actor was clearly heartbroken. Not only did he come to know he was not the child's father but he broke off his relationship with Flavin due to the incident. It seemed like he felt he had lost both of them.
Luckily, Stallone reunited with Flavin and their romance blossomed into a marriage. Today, he is the father of three daughters.
