After Losing His Son To Early Death, Sylvester Stallone Admits "There Is No Greater Pain Than Losing A Child"

Sylvester Stallone lost his son to a heart attack. The star who chose to remain silent opened up about the loss.

Though parenthood comes with a lot of responsibilities and fears, most adults are excited about embarking on that journey. Watching your child take their baby steps and seeing them mature are dreams most parents have. However, losing your child, whether they are young or old is heartbreaking. Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone too endured this. He saw his baby boy grow up to become an adult but one day, fate plucked him away from his life.

Sylvester's son Sage was 36-years-old when he died suddenly in his Los Angeles apartment on July 13, 2012. According to CNN, Sage who was the elder son of the actor with his first wife, actress Sasha Czack suffered from a heart attack, due to atherosclerosis. His sudden death shattered Sylvester, .

"When a parent loses a child there is no greater pain. Therefore I am imploring people to respect my talented son’s memory and feel compassion for his loving mother Sasha. This agonizing loss will be felt for the rest of our lives. Sage was our first child and the center of our universe and I am humbly begging for all to have my son’s memory and soul left in peace," said the actor's statement, according to Metro.

Though Sylvester did not initially have a great relationship with his son after the divorce, he restored it years later. In 1990, the father-son duo was seen in the movie Rocky V. The two shared a great chemistry on-screen and even appeared on several interviews together. Sage was already seen in movies like Daylight in 1996 where his father played the hero.

The young man then went to follow his father's footsteps, establishing himself as an actor and producer. Though he had some health issues, nobody anticipated his tragic death. The sudden death shocked Sylvester and the grief-stricken action hero took to silence dealing with his pain in private. He canceled all public appearances and chose to spend some time alone.

But a month later, in August 2012, the actor opened up about losing Sage during a film promotion. “It’s very, very tough. It’s a horrible situation, but time hopefully will heal, and you try to get through it, but it’s just something that’s a reality of life,” said Sylvester. He went to say, “It’s important to get back and try to start reliving your life, otherwise you can go into a spiral.”

However, years later in 2016, he paid tribute to Sage after winning the Golden Globe for Creed. When reporters asked him if the loss of his son impacted his work. He said, "Any time you can do things that are real, I think it’s very, very helpful, and with my son, I want to respect his memory, and I think we did so."
