Surrogacy has always been a sensitive topic and it proved to be a matter of contention between the Mom and the surrogate in a story shared on Reddit. The incident shared by an anonymous Redditor who is a surrogate stated that she felt the baby's mom shouldn't have the right to touch her belly without consent, even if she was carrying her baby.
The 24-year-old woman wrote, “So I am currently 6 months pregnant as a surrogate for a family…even when I was pregnant with my daughter I could not stand people touching my stomach. I don’t understand the obsession with people touching pregnant bellies but it bothers me when people try to do it,” explaining how uncomfortable she feels with strangers rubbing her baby bump. “Anyways the family I’m surrogating for has asked multiple times if they can touch my stomach or rub it and feel the baby move and kick,” she writes which she has previously denied politely.
The Redditor with username @ u/Dangerous_South_9178 gives context that the mother is physically capable to give birth but chose not to so that it does not hamper her career as a personal trainer. Recently, when the mother and surrogating woman were at a clinic for a regular check-up she says, “….she reached over and rubbed my stomach while talking to the doctor. I kindly asked her to stop touching my stomach and she snapped at me and said I was ruining the experience for her and it’s her baby she should be able to feel her kick,” this was the moment when the writer snapped at her out of irritation for not respecting her boundaries.
“I snapped back and said that it may be her baby but it’s my body and that if she really wanted to feel her baby kick she should’ve gotten pregnant herself,” after which the woman got a call from the becoming father who called out her rude behavior, “My friends and parents are split on whether I’m..(wrong)” she asks on the platform. The question of a woman’s body has been the battleground of many. The Reddit post was filled up with comments in favor of the writer who supported her call and argued that the parents have absolutely no right to touch a surrogating woman’s body without her consent.
User No-Wallaby2072 wrote, “Just because your carrying the baby doesn't give them a right to touch you without permission,” others also supported on the same lines commenting on the thread, “Exactly this. It is HER body. Not the soon-to-be mom’s body. And maybe the statement about her being pregnant herself is harsh but it is only harsh because it is true. I hope the surrogate family has time for the baby when it arrives. Always a shame when a baby messes up your plans…” as posted by @ Pollythepony1993.
