From a very tender age, Vergara saw some of the cruelest tragedies of life, but she still had the courage to love and be open to receving it.
TV's one of the highest-paid actresses and the one who once stole Britney Spears' thunder at her own party, Sofia Vergara, is happily married to her chiseled husband Joe Manganiello of Magic Mike fame. The couple looks as happy as marriage can get and does not fail to make many young lovers go green with jealousy due to their electric chemistry.
But to embrace this part of her life fully, Vergara had to muster an enormous amount of courage because she was shattered by the tragic events she faced in the younger days of her life.
Vergara became the country's heartthrob after she appeared in a Pepsi commercial at age 17. She started to make a name for herself on the travel show Fuera de Serie (Out of the Ordinary), she never lost touch with her siblings and was very close to her family, reports Cheatsheet.
And that makes the next segment of her life so painful. The 46-year-old actress was shooting for a show in Miami back then when she was informed that her brother, Rafael, has been shot dead and she was left distraught. “We come from a successful family, and he knew he was a target for kidnapping,” Fox News quotes Sofia Vergara. “He always had bodyguards. Then one day he went out alone and was shot dead. I was devastated.”
The murder occurred in 1996 and remains unsolved to this day. So, one can assume that Vergara wouldn't have got closure and probably this past horror still haunts her.
But life wasn't done throwing curve balls her way. At 18, she got married to her high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez and her son Manolo was born the following year but her relationship with Gonzalez was never meant to be and they split up after only 2 years of togetherness.
So now, she was a single and working mother to her son Manolo. She took up the roles of his primary guardian, provider, mentor, and friend.
Life rolled on and she was faced with another scary occurrence. At the age of 28, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and she had to undergo surgery to get her thyroid removed. “I got rid of the cancer and then for me it was, ‘Oh shoot, now I have to live with this condition my whole life,’” Vergara explained to HuffPost.
She went on, “I have to be on medication my whole life and I don’t have a thyroid. So, of course, I had to make myself realize what was going on with my body and I have to say in the past ten years, I never had a problem. I’m very very straight with the way I try to do what the doctor says and I go to my doctor religiously and get my blood tests.”
Fast forward, as she was trying to navigate life as a single mom and a cancer survivor, she met businessman Nick Loeb and got engaged to him. But this relationship of hers came to an end too, as if, life was not allowing her to settle for anything less than what she really deserves. In 2014, she broke up with Loeb, and the same year she met Joe Manganiello and everything started making sense.
Initially, she wasn't sure of her relationship with Manganiello. In an interview with Haute Living, he said, “Our first date was her giving me every reason why it would never work out. Like, 'You're too young, you're an actor, you're this, you're that,' and she was just doing it to hear herself say it." But what's meant to be, will be. Six months into their relationship, Manganiello proposed to the TV star and soon they were married.
The highlight of their 2015 wedding was Vergara's son walking her down the aisle. Manganiello and Vergara are one of the happiest Hollywood couples right now and their Instagram page is a treat to the eyes and the heart. Their smoldering chemistry in front of the camera when on an outing together and their social media PDA reinforces the fact that they are committed and very much in love as a couple.
The mom of one has gone through a lot of struggles and challenges in her life, to be able to regain her strength and allow herself to open up to love and commitment is not an ordinary feat. Now that the actress has found her happily ever after amid the Hollywood chaos and web of shallow romances, one can raise a toast to her and say Kudos!
