Luca wanted to become a father so when Alba came his way, he opened his arms and welcomed her into his life.
Not having a family is heart-breaking. When you are a child, not knowing where you belong, who to call family, what to call home --all of these things are painful. Added to that, when you are not included because of something you just can't help, it feels even worse. You just want to feel accepted by others, just be loved.
Baby Alba would have been in such a situation if it wasn't for a man who came to her life like an angel. After being rejected several times just days after her birth, she was accepted by a man who was not bothered by her down syndrome condition. All he wanted was to give her a happy life.
Luca Trapanese from Italy adopted Alba when she was just 13 days old. The little girl, who had Down's Syndrome, was given up for adoption by her mother because of her condition. It was not easy for the baby to find a family. About 20 families rejected the newborn because of her condition. But soon, Luca came into her life and everything changed.
Since the age of 14, Luca had been working and volunteering for organizations that were focused to help differently-abled children. He always wanted to become a father. However, it was difficult for Luca to apply for adoption because he was a single parent. Finally, in 2017, he was given permission to adopt under one condition.
According to the BBC, the man could only adopt a baby with special needs who had been rejected by other traditional families. Luca was elated. Having years of experience with such children, he knew he was the right person for it. "Since I was 14 years old, I have volunteered and worked with the disabled so I felt I had the right knowledge and experience to do it," said Luca, quoted MyPositive Outlooks.
In July 2017, Luca got a call from the tribunal that informed him of a baby girl. Luca heard her story and did not wait at all to respond. He immediately said yes. He rushed to the hospital to find the newborn girl. "When I first held her in my arms, I was overcome with joy. I felt she was my daughter straight away," said the single dad to BBC. He knew they were meant to be a family.
"It was the first time I held a newborn baby. Before that moment, I have always been scared. But, when I first held Alba, I knew I was ready to be her dad," said Luca. He spent the first few days with her all alone trying to create that father-daughter bond and later introduced her to his extended family and friends.
Today, Luca's life revolves around his daughter. He says that his daughter "revolutionized his life and everything revolves around her." "She brought me happiness and a sense of fulfillment. I am proud to be her dad," says Luca.
For him, she was never a second choice or the last option. He says," I wanted her to be my daughter."
