Sean Connery, Who Held Wife's Hand at Every Stage, Took His Last Breath Doing The Same | She Was The Love Of His Life

Micheline Roquebrune is Sean Connery's second wife. She did not know who he was the first time they met.

To be by your beloved's side till your very last moment is indeed a privilege. Sir Sean Connery was lucky that way. When he passed away on 31 October 2020, his beloved wife of 45 years, Micheline Roquebrune was by his side.

According to the Daily Mail, Connery was surrounded by his family when "he died peacefully in his sleep," His son, Jason Connery told the BBC, "We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time." He added, "A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor," according to People.

His beloved wife spoke to the media about Connery's last moments. She revealed that the actor who retired from the film industry in 2011 struggled with dementia. With the condition taking a toll on him, the actor wished for a peaceful death. "He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss," said Roquebrune to the Daily Mail.

She recounted his final days with dementia and said she was happy that his wishes came true. "It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly. At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted," said the grieving widow.

Roquebrune appreciated the life she shared with him and said a life without him around would be difficult for her.  “He was gorgeous and we had a wonderful life together. He was a model of a man. It is going to be very hard without him, I know that. But it could not last forever and he went peacefully," said Roquebrune.

Connery and Roquebrune shared a beautiful love. The James Bond star said, "Micheline is an amazing woman. She is the love of my life," according to Mirror.

Roquebrune met the actor at a golf tournament. The French-Moroccan painter did not know anything about the Scottish actor at the time. When their eyes met at the event, sparks flew. However, Connery, who had just separated from his first wife, did not approach her immediately.

"I saw this man from the back, and of course, he had a fine physique. But that first day I didn't know who he was or anything about him," said Roquebrune, according to Nicki Swift

It was only after two years that the couple met again. Soon, the two started dating and their relationship culminated in marriage in 1975. However, their relationship had some language barrier issues. Roquebrune spoke in fluent French and Spanish and the duo communicated to each other with the help of their body language.

Speaking of their early romantic days, Connery said, "In the early days, it was difficult for us to see each other. We were in separate queues coming off different flights. There was a partition and underneath I saw these feet. I immediately recognized them and tried to get through to see her but it wasn't allowed," according to Nicki Swift.

After Connery's retirement, he along with his wife lived in the Lyford Cay community. He was rarely seen out and did not want to be involved in any public affair.
