Sandra Bullock filed for divorce from Jesse James soon after the cheating scandal was out.
The idea of parenthood is exciting but no one can deny the fear and skepticism that comes along with it. Sandra Bullock wanted to be a mother and decided to adopt her son along with her partner, Jesse James. She believed they would start their journey of parenting together and hoped he would be there to support her. However, her partner cheated on her, leaving her devastated and a single mother.
Bullock got married to James in July 2005 after meeting him in December 2003. The couple was so in love that they were planning to build a family together; Bullock even became a stepmother to James's kids from his previous marriage. But, the actress also wanted to have children with her husband. After thinking about it for a while, Bullock decided the right thing to do was to adopt a child. "One day it was just a feeling that came that instead of bringing another life into this world, we wanted to reach out and find our child in New Orleans. There were so many children alone after Katrina, and for some reason, we knew that someone would want to come into our lives," said the actress, alluding to her decision to choose adoption, according to ABC News.
Bullock was thrilled and cared nothing more than becoming a mother. "Whether it was a girl or boy, what background -- it didn't matter. We somehow knew the right little person would come," said the actress, according to ABC News. So, Bullock along with her husband began their adoption process and kept it a secret.
But just when it was time for them to welcome their son, Louis, into their life, Bullock was hit hard by devastating news. James betrayed her trust and the stories of his cheating scandal were circulated widely in the press. Bullock could not believe how her life had suddenly turned upside down. Days ago she was elated to start a new chapter with him. Now, she was left to be a single parent, and her son was left fatherless. Bullock had no option but to part ways with the man, who disrespected her and their marriage.
"She did consider Jesse a father to Louis, so that was one of the hardest parts of breaking up. Jesse was there for her through the whole adoption process. She now knows she is much better off and everything happens for a reason," said a source close to the actress, according to Eonline. The source added, "She was embarrassed by what he did and in ways blamed herself at the time (she knows now it wasn't her at all)."
After filing for divorce, the actress stated that she was "sad" and "scared" of the life ahead of her with her son, Louis. The Proposal actress also stated that she was completely broken by James's actions but she gathered the strength to put back her life together. "I’ve been on the floor and I’ve been heartbroken. I didn’t know how I was going to stand up. But I just gave it time," said the actress, according to Closer.
Though her circumstances were horrible, Bullock went ahead and began to focus on being a parent. "You don’t think it will pass when you’re in the middle of it, but it does. I’m so lucky to have what I have. I have a beautiful child and friends and family I adore. I choose to do what’s best for Louis. I don’t do anything selfishly for myself anymore," told the Oscar-winning actress to Closer.
Meanwhile, James regretted losing his son because of his infidelity. "I made mistakes and did stuff that I shouldn't have. I handled the situation not the way that I should have. I got divorced and lost a kid I adopted because of it," said James, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He added, "Whether that’s fair, whether I should have lost a kid due to infidelity, which I don’t think anybody ever does. But I think with ‘Hollywood Law’ that’s totally fair."
For Bullock, life didn't exactly go the way she planned. But she found the courage to find happiness, positivity, and love after all the tragedy. The actress found her true love in Bryan Randall and even adopted a second child.
