Richard Gere's Wife Says Knowing Him Has Given "Meaning" to Her Life & the 34 Years Age-Gap Is No Hindrance in Love

With every passing day, the star couple seems to fall deeper in love!

When you are in love, judgments and societal norms should matter the least. Time and again, Hollywood has given us some unconventional real-life love stories that could inspire people to let go of apprehensions and just fall in love.

The 70-year-old actor, who made us believe in the magic of love with his lover-boy act in Pretty Woman, had a love story of his own that could give rom coms a run for their money. In an interview with Hello! Richard Gere's wife Alejandra Silva opened up about completely in love with her husband and being unfazed by their age gap of 34 years. She also says that being older than him does not mean he is not romantic. In fact, she reveals that he is very "romantic and affectionate."

"He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I've ever met. What can I say? I'm so in love!" she said. She added, "How would you feel if each morning you were asked, 'What would make you happy today?' Not a day goes by that he doesn't mention how important I am to him. I feel very lucky."

She added, "In this life, it had to be like this. He has promised me at least 20 good years! I have to confess that he has much more energy than me; he's much more active. I find it hard to keep up with him. He's not human!"

In a conversation with Hola, 34-year-old Silva admitted that Gere has not only shown her the meaning of love but has also given direction to her life. “I was a little lost, without light, and knowing him gave meaning to my life. It was feeling that someone was reaching out and showing me my true path.”

Gere, on the other hand, believes that being with Silva could help him fulfill his aspiration of having a lifelong marriage like his parents did. "My mother and father were married for over 70 years. It’s the sort of marriage I always aspired to having myself but haven’t yet managed," The Guardian reported.

Age is definitely just a number for them because the couple seems to be falling deeper in love with each other every day. Married in 2014, both Gere and Silva and head-over-heels in love with each other. "I'm the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be? I'm married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who's fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who's a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!" said Gere. "Alejandra meditates, she's a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel... and she's also Spanish: the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Buñuel... You can't get any better than that."

In response to that, Silva said, "I never thought I'd find a man so perfect for me. I have no words to describe my happiness." When asked what he says she's given him, she replied, "He knows I love him madly. I think I bring him stability. Above all, it helped I wasn't an actress or a model. I never had any interest in that. What has united us the most is our desire to help other people who need it, our commitment to Buddhism and the Tibetan people. And he was able to see my unconditional commitment as a humanitarian, as a person, as a woman... It's the sweetest, most romantic dream I've ever had. That's why I've decided to stay in it!"

She added, "I feel like I'm in a true fairytale." And fairytales don't have the room to accommodate societal norms of love, does it? "Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world... What could be more romantic than a man who writes you songs every day?"

And the fairytale seems to fill their world with joy as they welcomed their first child Alexander in 2019.

When you give your all to a relationship, futile parameters don't bother you. It's the love you share that matters. We wish the Gere family a lifetime of love and laughter!
