Ray Liotta, The “GoodFellas” Actor Dies In His Sleep At 67 | “The Epitome Of A Tough Guy”

There were no unusual circumstances surrounding the death, and no foul play is suspected.

Ray Liotta, the American actor and producer, died in his sleep while filming a movie called Dangerous Waters on an island. He was 67 years old.

An anonymous source told TMZ that there were no unusual circumstances surrounding the death, and no foul play is suspected. Liotta's fiancée, Jacy Nittolo, was with him in the Dominican Republic when he worked on the project. Nittolo and Liotta got engaged over the holidays in 2020. He had enthusiastically posted the good news on Instagram. He wrote in the caption, "Christmas wishes do come true. I asked the love of my life to marry me, and thank God she said yes!!!"

Liotta is most remembered for his performance as gangster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's 1990 masterwork Goodfellas, in which he co-starred with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. Liotta was experiencing a major comeback. Recent roles include The Many Saints of Newark, Marriage Story (for which he shared a 2020 Indie Spirit Award with the cast), and Steven Soderbergh's No Sudden Move, reports Deadline.

He was also just poised to executive produce the A&E docuseries Five Families, which chronicles the spectacular rise and fall of the Genovese, Gambino, Bonnano, Colombo, and Lucchese families of New York's mafia. Liotta also co-starred in the Apple TV+ series Black Bird with Taron Egerton, recurred on Prime Video's Hanna, appeared in the 2006 CBS crime thriller Smith, and co-starred in the 2016-18 NBC police drama Shades of Blue with Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez paid a tribute to the actor on Twitter by writing, "Ray was my partner in crime on Shades of Blue … the first thing that comes to mind is he so was kind to my children. Ray was the epitome of a tough guy who was all mushy on the inside."

Liotta won a Primetime Emmy in 2005 for his appearance on ER, and he was nominated for two SAG Awards for the 2015 miniseries Texas Rising, and the 1998 telefilm The Rat Pack, in which he played Frank Sinatra with Don Cheadle, Joe Mantegna, and Angus Macfayden.

On Twitter, Lorraine Bracco, who played his wife in GoodFellas, paid homage to him. She wrote, "I am utterly shattered to hear this terrible news about my Ray. I can be anywhere in the world & people will come up & tell me their favorite movie is GoodFellas. Then they always ask what was the best part of making that movie. My response has always been the same … Ray Liotta."

He is survived by his daughter, Karsen, and his sister, Linda, in addition to his fiancée.
