The burnt remains of another man were also found in the car along with the woman.
Trigger warning: Contains details of death that may be distressing to some.
On October 27, the charred remains of a woman were found inside a car with another man, in a rural area near Sao Paulo, Brazil. The bodies were of Ellen Priscila Ferreira da Silva, 24, and Ely Carlos dos Santos. The police during their investigation found that both the woman and man were tied up inside the car before they were set ablaze.
What's more heartbreaking is the fact that Ellen was pregnant, reported The Mirror. The four suspects — three men, 19, 35 and 38, and a woman, 36 — who were arrested, not only took the life of two people but that of an unborn child as well. The burnt car was identified by the family as Ellen's mother's car. The police interrogated the suspects, of which the 38-year-old man became their prime suspect after they found out that he was the father of the unborn child.

Apparently, Ellen became pregnant with the man's child four months before the incident. The 38-year-old man was married as well.
According to the investigators, the suspects knew both the victims, Ellen and Ely, and the crime was deliberate. The officers said that the crime was probably committed as a group. One of them even went far enough to act like they were drowning in grief after talking to Ellen's mother.
The leading officer of the case, Paulo de Tars said, "It was a premeditated and very cruel crime," and continued, "One of the suspects even personally comforted the victim's mother after her death was confirmed."
Elaborating about Ellen's relationship with the married man, the police further revealed, "The victim was four months pregnant by one of the suspects, who is married. His wife, who confessed, and who is also pregnant, knew," according to NY Post.
The officers divulged that initially, only the 19-year-old man and the 36-year-old woman admitted to being involved in the murder while the other two men denied any involvement in the crime. However, investigators later found that another vehicle, which belonged to the father of Ellen's unborn child, had made its way to the spot where Ellen and Ely were burned alive.
The 38-year-old man, who is also the main suspect of the unfathomable crime, said that he too was attacked during the incident. He added that he pretended to faint so that he won't be burnt alive, like Elle and Ely. However, reportedly he confessed later that the wounds on his body were self-inflicted as a part of the story that he had knitted in his defense. The whole story of him being attacked was completely fabricated.
The investigators revealed that there could be another heartbreaking reason that could have led to this tragic incident. Paulo said, "Ellen also refused to abort the child conceived in the extramarital relationship."
If the officers are to be believed, Ellen's refusal to abort the baby is what eventually led to the death of the two individuals.
Although the officers have a theory, they are not ignoring the possibility of the crime being motivated by other reasons. While one motive could have been revenge, the investigators are also suggesting that the horrifying crime could have been motivated by drug debt too, as reported by Mirror. "Ellen and Ely Carlos may have been in debt to a drug dealer who was also arrested," mentioned Paulo.
The incident is still undergoing investigation.
