John Legend credits his wife for being his inspiration and his best friend. They share two children.
After having dreamt of seeing their baby for nine months, no parent can imagine leaving the hospital without their child. Unfortunately, singer John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen were forced to go through that. They were forced to say an emotional goodbye to their baby boy.
They grieved the loss together and Teigen wrote on Instagram, "We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough." She also posted emotional pictures of the two holding hands and weeping the loss of their child. Legend and Teigen had announced the arrival of their baby boy in August 2020. They never imagined it would end in such a painful manner.
While Teigen went through the dreadful pain of seeing her child's lifeless body, Legend stood by her. He was her strongest support system and held her close as she tore down.
Legend married the model in 2013 after a year-long courtship. Speaking of his wife to People, Legend said his number one priority as a husband was to be her "rock" at all times. He stated, "Being a good husband is about communicating and listening to what your partner needs and wants. A lot of it is being trustworthy, being dependable, being someone they can rely on. They want security and to know someone has their back. Hopefully I do that for Chrissy.”
The father of two also reiterated that Teigen was the love of his life. "She’s the one. It’s clear! We have great chemistry. She makes me laugh all the time. She’s a wonderful mother. She’s my best friend," said the All of Me singer. He also added, "Oh, and one more thing? She inspires some good love songs."
The couple had first met on the set of his Stereo music video in 2006. Sparks flew between the two and months later, they got together. However, their relationship had its ups and downs. Though they fell in love through their phone conversations, Legend decided to push the brakes while they were touring together.
“He was feeling really bummed and stressed out. He was like, ‘I can’t be in a relationship right now.’ That lasted for one day. Literally, a day. I knew it came from a place other than us not working. It was the stress of him having to maybe cancel a show, and he had never been in a real relationship—or so he says now. I always joke, ‘Remember when you tried to break up with me?’ He’s like, ‘Yes, sorry. Big mistake'," recalled Teigen, according to Time.
After four years of dating, Legend proposed to his lady love while they were on a vacation in the Maldives. “We get to the Maldives and he had planned this beautiful Christmas. He knows how much I love Christmas…And this waiter comes out with a silver dome for dessert…So he opens up the dome and a ton of arugula falls out and then I kind of fish in it…And I see the little box and then you know, your heart stops and you get so excited. There was no big grand speech or anything. I think it was just very lovely and sweet," said Teigen, according to Time.
A year later, they got married, and ever since have been the power couple everyone envied. “People see our banter a lot, and we have a lot of fun together. I like the fact that she makes me laugh all the time. Her usual quick wit also makes her more vulnerable moments all the more endearing," said Legend, according to People. He continued, "The thing that makes me say ‘Aw’ is when she unironically compliments me because she doesn’t do it a lot. I wouldn’t love it if she did it all the time!”
The couple shares two children and often post pictures of their cheerful life on social media.
