The video stirred debate about safe parenting when TikTok user Raquel Tolman shared a fun video showing her feeding her child with snacks on the floor. "Sometimes when I'm sick, I like to feed my baby his little snacks as if he was a chicken," Tolman says in the video posted last weekend which has due to its controversial nature garnered around 7 million views. The video shows her picking up a handful of eatables for the child and scattering it onto the carpet where her child was lying.
The backlash started pouring in the comment section when the mother of a baby posted the video for a laugh on TikTok. The video showed her feeding the child with snacks and other edibles by scattering them on the floor as one would do while serving chicks with grains on the ground. People shared their concerns about hygiene and the baby inculcating bad habits. On the contrary, several mothers came forth and defended the young mum on TikTok expressing how even they let their babies pick eatables from the floor all the time. But an expert told Insider that parents should never intentionally give a baby food off the floor.

"I mean, that's cute, but…hopefully, the floor is freshly vacuumed," said one comment, while others commented, "But the floor is full of germs," which raised concerns about the parenting style. Which was soon followed by supportive comments. "You can tell by the comments who don't got no kids," one user said, while another commented, "My daughter has happily eaten fistfuls of plant soil, sand from the park, blades of grass, random carpet fibers that she's found on the floor. Kids will willingly throw their snacks onto the floor and then proceed to eat them," justifying the intent of the young mum, Raquel.

Soon after facing mixed reactions Raquel again posted a follow-up video on December 6, to clarify certain queries that the snacks she was feeding were "not choke-able." "I mean, it's carpet. It's as clean as the carpet's going to be, and he plays on it all day, so I cannot change that," she added about those pointing to her choice of feeding snacks on the carpet.

"Let 'em be haters! NO MOTHER is perfect," reached out to one user on her comment box, while another wrote, named @mrskreitinger, expressed she believes that she thought letting babies eat from the floor boosts their immunity to a great extent. While experts differ on it and don’t suggest feeding on the carpet, chances of nil exposure to germs are impossible despite all the efforts.
