Dad Allegedly Shoots Dead His Three Children And Wife Before Turning Gun On Himself | “I Am In Total Shock”

A GoFundMe campaign has been created for the funeral costs of the family.

A mother from Michigan and her three children were found dead in their house from suspected gunshot wounds. Officials responded to a complaint about a man with a pistol and shots being fired at a Mecosta Township house on Friday. Officers arrived on the scene to find three children, all under the age of 10, and their mother deceased, according to Mecosta County Sheriff's Office. The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release, "The three young siblings have been identified as 6-year-old Katelynn Gillard, 4-year-old Ronald Gillard, and 3-year-old Joshua Gillard." They further added, "Their mother, 40-year-old Dawn Gillard was also killed, presumably by their father and husband, a 51-year-old male, who then is believed to have turned the firearm on himself, leading to a gunshot wound to the head," reports PEOPLE.

Hailey Salisbury, the daughter of Dawn Gillard and half-sister of the three children killed, told 13 ON YOUR SIDE, "I am in total shock. I am so devastated." The 51-year-old man was taken to Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital, then to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, and finally to the University of Michigan Hospital, where he remains in serious condition due to his injuries. In the press release by Sheriff Brian Miller, the identity of the man is being withheld "until he is arrested and formally charged." He further added, "In the near future, information will be limited so as to not jeopardize any future criminal proceedings, and out of respect to the family."

Miller told PEOPLE in a statement, "No matter how much you prepare yourself for something like this in our line of work, it never is easy. It sticks with you. Our hearts go out to the remaining family members, who have to go on with their lives not having their loved ones part of it." He added, "I am speechless, and really have no answer to why and how something like this can happen. We have a strong community, who has always been there for one another during times of need." Superintendent Roger Cole noted, in a statement to parents, that one of the youngsters attended Morley Stanwood Community Schools. He said in the statement, "There are a lot of emotions to deal with and to process as a result of this terrible loss. We want to give our Mohawk family and greater community a time and place to mourn, to weep, to pray, and to begin healing."

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to seek support for the funeral of the people who have died. The campaign states, "Any family that loses members to violence suffer immeasurably. Deaths so horrific should not be a financial burden on any surviving members." Police are further investigating the case and if anyone has any information, they can contact Detective Sergeant Mike Mohr at (231) 592-0150.
