Michelle Obama Is The Most Admired Woman In The World, According To Poll

Her humble beginnings did not stop Michelle Obama from becoming a global face. According to a poll, she is the most admired woman in the world.

Every now and then, humankind produces some exceptional people whose works and wise words influence us, motivate us and lift our spirits. Michelle Obama is one of them. In the last two decades, we have seen how this South Side woman became the most familiar face in American history. Today, she is known around the globe for her notable charitable work, fearless attitude, strong character, and confident personality. She now has yet another feather added to her long list of achievements and accolades.

According to a new survey, the former first lady is the most admired woman in the world. The worldwide survey that was released on the 18th July was conducted by the research firm You Gov, reports Daily News. Famous talk show host, Oprah Winfrey, and America's loved actress, Angelina Jolie, are at second and third place respectively.

Even though Michelle Obama became known on the world stage as the First lady of the United States, she was already an accomplished lawyer, an activist and also a writer. Her powerful speeches and woman empowerment programs set her apart during her years in the White House. She inspired women around the world and started an everlasting legacy of her own.

In 2015, she initiated the "Let Girls Learn" program that aimed to educate 62 million unprivileged girls around the world. "I see myself in these girls, I see my daughters in these girls, and I simply cannot walk away from them. And I plan to keep raising my voice on their behalf for the rest of my life," said Michelle. Not only did she speak but also showed women how to stand up for their beliefs. She became the voice of all the unheard women around the world and constantly reminded them that there were no limits. Michelle also worked closely with service members, veteran families and supported them through various education and employment programs.

Being a compelling and passionate speaker, Michelle was always able to connect to people through her words. The powerful orator also took the world by storm with the release of her memoir Becoming, in November 2019.  According to The Guardian, the book sold more than 1.4 million copies in its very first week and is now one of the bestselling books of the decade. According to the Washington Post, more than 10 million copies were sold and the book became the best selling memoir ever. The book which talked about her inspiring journey from a small town in Chicago to the White House garnered the attention of millions around the world. The intimate and powerful memoir shed light on her humble upbringing and her unshakable determination make a difference in the world someday.

Before she became the face of America, Michelle was just a girl from Chicago. Born to a homemaker Marian and factory worker Frasier Robinson, she lived in a cramped up apartment with her family. Though life was tough and her budget was tight, she was always hardworking and competitive. Her struggle paid off. She graduated from two Ivy League colleges and practiced as a lawyer before she met her husband Barak Obama.

The South Side girl proved to the world that nothing is impossible and unachievable. She broke stereotypes, took risks and taught people around her to dream bigger and higher.
