Oscar-Winner Matthew McConaughey Is Now A Full-Time Professor At The University Of Texas

Matthew McConaughey will be a full-time professor at the University of Texas from Fall 2019. The actor who has a great passion for teaching is following his heart to shape the future of his students.

Academy winning actor Matthew McConaughey has won our hearts through movies like Dazed and Confused, Dallas Buyers Club and Magic Mike. Known for gracing the screen with his brillant performances, the actor has proved that he can pull off any character effortlessly. The star, who was a full-time actor all this while, has taken up a new profession showing the world that he has a lot more to bring to the table.



According to the Huffington Post, the actor is officially a full-time professor at the University of Texas and will be seen a lot more at the campus from the fall semester. The university's college of communication tweeted on 28 August, "In recognition of his professional pedigree and personal investment in student success, Matthew McConaughey has been appointed a #TEXASMoody professor of practice."


McConaughey, who earned his film degree from the same university in 1993, has previously co-taught Script to Screen film production class as a guest lecturer with filmmaker and faculty member Scott Rice for the University of Texas. He has been a visiting faculty at the Moody College of Communication since 2015. According to the university press release, the actor will continue teaching the same subject in the fall.


Reportedly, the actor also developed the curriculum of the course which provides a stage by stage understanding of film making. The class description for the course reads, "By studying script drafts, shot lists, storyboards, early edits and even exclusive behind the scenes footage, students will garner insight into the making of a major Hollywood feature."  The experienced actor who has acted in about 50 films hopes to make his students ready for the real challenges in the film industry.


“It’s the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school. Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them,” said McConaughey about the curriculum. He further went on to say," Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art – no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus.”


The actor who has a great passion for teaching has taken the opportunity to impart his immense knowledge with his students. in addition to his interest in teaching, the star has been closely connected to the campus and its activities. According to PopSugar, he is a frequent face at the university's basketball and football games. He has also been involved with the University administration to promote safety among students. In 2016, the administration released a hilarious video that featured McConaughey driving students in a golf cart, making him a hero among them.


University students are thrilled to have the talented actor around fulltime and some of them who had taken his course earlier even credited him as an efficient teacher. The excitement of McConaughey joining the university is not just evident among students but also on Twitter. Some of them have even expressed their desire to join the university just to attend his class. "Me applying at UT Austin after I hear Matthew McConaughey is going to be a professor," wrote one while another wrote, "Matthew McConaughey is gonna be a professor at UT Austin so I guess I’m transferring."
