Matthew McConaughey is head over heels for his wife, Camila Alves, who he met in 2006.
Some marriages are just out of the world. Matthew McConaughey's relationship is such a kind. He and his wife, Camila Alves are fortunate to be one among those Hollywood couples to share an incredible bond.
The couple has been married for 7 years has nothing but wonderful things to say about their family. McConaughey often credits his wife for her support. On being named as the 2018 Inspiration Honoree at the Third Annual City Gal, the actor paid a sweet tribute to his wife.
“The biggest thing I’m grateful for right now in my life is three healthy children and a wife who doesn’t want to change me. Thank you, Camila. That’s something to be thankful for, right? There’s nobody else I’d rather be here with," said McConaughey, according to E Online.
The actor met his wife in 2006 at a time when he was ready to settle down for good. He knew his clock was ticking but the actor wanted to do it right without rushing. It is at that time that his eyes met Alves'.
"I was about to be 40 and my plan was to be married and have kids by that age. But I didn’t want to play the game of starting to feel anxious because, with too much anxiety, you can’t find a mate," said the actor to Daily Mail. "I knew men who had made hasty decisions and women who had done the same thing. But at that point, I wasn’t hunting," added the man.
McConaughey was at a bar making margaritas with his friends when he came across the beautiful woman. According to Martha Stewart Weddings, he said, "When I saw the woman who is now my wife, I was at a club making margaritas at a table with friends. When she walked in wearing this aqua dress, I went, 'Whoa, what is that?' I didn't say, 'Who is that?'"
The actor was smitten at the very sight of her and he felt an instant connection with her. "Grace, identity, constitution, beauty—where's that from? What is that? As soon as she caught my eye, a little voice goes in my head: 'This is not the kind of woman you call across the room. Boy, get your ass out of that chair'," he continued.
However, Alves was not into the actor right away. But with McConaughey being so determined, Alves finally agreed to go out on a date. The actor cooked for her on their first date and their relationship grew from there. In 2012, the couple decided to tie the knot.
"In the end, our understanding was, Let’s go make a covenant, with you, me, and God. And let’s understand that this is not a destination, this is the beginning of an adventure that we’re taking together," said the actor to GQ.
Over the years, the couple has opened up about the respect and love they share. "I have been very faithful with my wife, very selfishly. I like being under her spell. I don't want to break that spell," said the actor, according to the Daily Mail.
He also spoke of how his wife valued small gestures than expensive gifts. According to Today, he said, "I don’t have a certain thing I buy her. An earnest handwritten note, that she knows I sat down and took some time and has some poetry to it, that’s worth more than whatever retail I paid for something.”
The couple shares three children and is often seen enjoying their time as a family. The family, who loves spending time in the kitchen makes it a point to cook together despite their busy schedules.
"We cook together. Even if I’m running late from work I say, ‘We’re having a late dinner'. Does it happen every single day of the week? No, but it happens a lot," said Camila Alves, according to US Weekly.
Their appreciation for each other is unparalleled and unique. It is no doubt why they have a great marriage.
