The Two-Week Rule Is The Secret Behind Matt Damon's Strong Marriage With His Soulmate

"My wife is my soul mate. I don't like being apart from her," he said and calls himself lucky for having found her.

He set eyes on her from the middle of a crowded room and knew that she was the one for him. And of all the roles he's played in his life, Matt Damon's favorite role is being the loving husband of Luciana Barroso and a doting father to his four daughters, Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella.

Matt Damon went through his twenties wondering if he will ever settle down. But after being together for around 15 years, his family takes first place in his heart. "I found the right person and it was like getting struck by lightning – literally, everything changed in my life," he told The Telegraph. "Now I find the prospect of being single terrifying. My life is so much easier because of my wife and my marriage. Everything makes sense."

The story of how they met in 2003 is right out of a romantic movie plot. “We were supposed to shoot in Hawaii, and then the movie got moved to Miami... I had never really hung out in Miami,” he told Ellen DeGeneres, according to Vogue.

"Matt’s story is that he saw me across the room and there was a light on me. And I’m like: ‘Yeah it was a nightclub - there were lights everywhere!’” Luciana Barroso laughed and said. "But he had started getting recognized and asked for pictures and autographs, and then it got kind of aggressive because people are drinking and stuff, and so he came and hid behind my bar … [wanting to] just hang out back there and have a drink. He says ‘oh I saw you and I really wanted to talk to you'."

But she didn't just let him sit there and they ended up having an exciting time on the night they met. "So I put him to work with me! I said: ‘you know, if you’re going to be back here, you can’t just be standing there!’ He had trained as a bartender for a film years before, so he started making drinks," she said. "And he made me a ton of money in tips that night because of course everyone wanted to go and see him. So it turned into a really fun night and then 15 years later here we are!"

“We definitely had a connection right away, it was so easy to talk to each other we were very comfortable [with each other]," she added.

They got married in 2005 and have been inseparable ever since. One of the secrets behind their strong marriage is the two-week rule that they love to abide by. “We have a two-week rule,” Matt Damon told People.

Speaking to YourTango about the same when asked how they keep their romance alive, the actor said, "I'm not away for more than two weeks. I think you need to be with the person you love as much as possible. My wife is my soul mate. I don't like being apart from her," according to HuffPost.

With the love of their lives by their side, they never stop feeling lucky to have found each other. "I think marriage is insane," he told ET. "It's a crazy idea, but I love being married to my wife. So I wouldn't tell anybody else about their relationship. But I'm lucky I found my wife. And I guess maybe, if there's any secret … it's to feel lucky."

Luciana Barroso, too, is glad to have him to share the good and bad with. "I just know I think we both feel, really, really lucky to have met each other so we don’t take that for granted," she said. "It’s life and marriage, so there’s ups and downs you know, but overall it’s easy and it’s fun. And he’s such a good dad."

Having recently got their names tattooed on his arm, he truly shows how in love he is with the five most important girls in his life.
