The "Uncharted" actors lost his mother Alma Wahlberg in April 2021.
Mark Wahlberg might have always been a fitness enthusiast and he often shares about his physical journey but he appeared visibly heartbroken while expressing his love for his late mother, Alma Wahlberg. On Monday, the “Boogie Nights” actor talked about his mother’s demise in an interview with Today and expressed how it has affected him. The 51-year-old lost the matriarch of their family in April 2021 and Mark Wahlberg revealed how he keeps listening to her voicemails and other recordings to keep her memory alive. As reported by Sheinelle Jones, who also had a chat with Alma Wahlberg back in 2018, Mark said that his mother ‘touched everybody she met.’ Sheinelle also shared her own experience with Alma on the sets of Through Mom’s Eyes.
“I mean this so sincerely, Mark. She changed my life,” she said, referring to the interview with Mark’s mother which went on for hours even though the schedule was supposed to last for 20 to 30 minutes. Sheinelle, a mother of three kids herself, continued, “For me, she was the true meaning of the word matriarch. She always talked about how you would call her every day.” Wahlberg went on to describe how his mom was the actual definition of hard work and that she faced numerous hardships in order to raise her nine kids. “She was truly an inspiration. You caught me off guard there by pulling out that one, and I am going to go watch that interview just so I can see her face. I mean, all I have now is the recordings and the voicemails that she left behind, and I listen to them quite often,” Wahlberg added in his interview with Sheinelle Jones.
Mark Wahlberg also went on to share a piece of advice with everyone who still got their parents by their side: “I remind them to call them every day, tell them how much you love them, and be there and connect with them as much as possible.” As reported by The Sun, Alma Wahlberg sadly passed away on April 18 , 2021 , at 78 years old. She was mom to the "Ted" actor Mark Wahlberg as well as Mark’s brother and "New Kids On The Block" star, Donnie, plus seven other children: Paul, Robert, Jim, Arthur, Tracey, Michelle, and Debbie. She reportedly had suffered from declining health and dementia.
Mark Wahlberg had spoken after his mother’s demise later in 2021, "My mom Alma’s joy for life, love and people — combined with a pride in her humble beginnings and refusal to forget where she came from — undoubtedly shaped me into the man that I am.”
