A man in his 60s was killed after he was shoved "into an oncoming train, without provocation," according to the San Diego Police Department. The authorities have started a homicide investigation on the matter. The incident occurred on Saturday at around 6:15 AM, according to the statement released by San Diego Police Department, reports CNN. The statement said, "The male struck the side of a passing train, causing his injuries." Officers found the victim unresponsive with "apparent trauma to his upper body on the trolley platform." He was identified but his name has not been released to the public.

According to a press release from the San Diego Police Department, trolley security phoned police at 6:15 a.m. to report a guy down on the platform at the station off Taylor Street near Pacific Highway. The release clarified that the victim and suspect exited a southbound trolley at the Old Town station. They were walking on the platform when the suspect, without being prompted, shoved the guy into an oncoming train. The man collided with the sides of the moving train causing serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at 6:23 AM, moments after the fatal action of the suspect. The accused has been characterized as a Caucasian male, 5 feet, he was 7 inches tall to 5-foot-9. He was dressed in all-black and has a slim frame, per NBC News. After pushing the victim into the train, he got on a trolley and left the area, SDPD said.

Train service at the station was shut as police investigated the event and sought witnesses. However, the services resumed by 12:30 PM, per Fox 5 News. The police have urged witnesses to come forward with any information regarding the incident or the identification of the suspect. The Lieutenant said in a statement, "We're very hopeful that we will have a resolution to this case. But anyone with information, we ask that they call the San Diego Police Department or Crime Stoppers. They can remain anonymous if they wish, but we're going to need a little help on this one." He also affirms that they will be able to investigate the case as soon as possible.
