Man Allegedly Cuts Off Penis And Throws It Out Car Window During Police Chase

The chase with Tyson Gilbert, 39, lasted for nearly 30 miles.

In a shocking incident, a man allegedly tossed his penis out of the car window during a police chase on Wednesday morning. Tyson Gilbert has since been apprehended by officials after he cut off and tossed his genital. The Tennessee man claimed that voices on the radio told him to do it in order to save the world. The 39-year-old marked his car partially blocking the highway when cops first approached him in Dowelltown.  He sped off after authorities flagged him down. The police pursuit involved multiple police departments and two branches of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, according to Newsweek. "He was all over the road the whole time," Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said. "He turned off on Old Liberty Road and came to a stop. He opened his door. He was naked and covered in blood. He then shut his door and kept driving."

The man opened the door to his vehicle, where the trooper observed that he was bleeding from an alleged self-inflicted wound. Gilbert shut the vehicle’s door and sped away, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol preliminary report, VICE reported. "When I pulled up behind him and turned my lights on he took off and refused to stop. He was all over the road the whole time," Bobby Johnson told Tennessee news station WJLE. Added Johnson, “The Alexandria Police Department spiked him (put down spike strips) on Highway 70 as he was going through Alexandria. He kept traveling westbound into Wilson County. The THP spiked him in Watertown but he continued westbound. We finally were able to box him in and got him stopped on Highway 70 right before the Interstate at I-40 and took him in custody. He was then transported to Vanderbilt Hospital."

The spike strips didn’t stop the driver immediately but Johnson said they did slow him down. “The first spike strips got one of his front tires and the second got the other tire. The Wilson County Sheriff’s department tried to spike him past Watertown but missed. After that it became a slow speed pursuit with him running on his rims until we boxed him in,” added Trooper Johnson. The chase went through two counties and the total chase lasted for nearly 30 miles until cops boxed Gilbert in. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but the details of his current condition remain unknown.  The Tennessee Highway Patrol public information office confirmed many of the details related to the pursuit, according to Newsweek. Gilbert did suffer from what appeared to be a self-inflicted wound. But as the case is still in its preliminary stages and since there is an ongoing investigation, more details are yet to be confirmed. A THP spokesperson told Motherboard that they couldn't confirm the state of the man's genitals either. Whether anyone found it on the road and took it to the hospital for him remains unknown because of HIPAA privacy laws.  Gilbert reportedly has active warrants against him for other offenses in Cookeville.
