Unlike people, love sees only the heart. And that is how it brought these two people together. Because it never even glanced at their differences.
If you haven't heard of TLC show Little People, Big World star Amy Roloff, you're about to now because her love story with her long-time boyfriend turned fiance, Chris Marek is one that will melt your heart. Especially after they proved that differences don't matter when it comes to love.
The 55-year-old actress first met the real estate agent at a singles mixer event, even though the two weren’t actually paired up together. But there were sparks that turned into full-blown flames of desire when Chris and Amy went on their first date riding on his motorcycle, according to Good Housekeeping.
Having been married before to Matt Roloff for 27 years, with whom she has four children, twin brothers Jeremy and Zach, 29, daughter Molly, 26, and youngest son Jacob, 22, she did not expect to be dating again, especially with someone of "average size," according to The Daily Mail.
She had filed for divorce in 2015 and hadn't started dating until after May 2016, when her divorce was finalized. It was right after that that she told her daughter about dating Marek in the December 2016 episode of LPBW.
"I’m having a good time," she said, according to People. "You know, I had a couple of pool parties. I had, like, 40 people here. No, I probably had, like, 50 people here. Then this guy Chris that I met, he came to the party, too. We got to talking and he invited me to go on a motorcycle ride. Oh, I’m having a ball!"
Soon enough, dating turned into a proposal as a nervous Marek decided to up the ante on their relationship. "It had to be a heart-shaped diamond because I knew that’s what Amy wanted," he said. After dating for three years, something that was new again for Roloff, it was a pleasant surprise to be engaged to the man she loves. At the time, they were out celebrating their third anniversary at a restaurant they used to frequent when Marek popped the question.
In an interview describing the beautiful event, she said, "I cried, he had tears and of course I said YES! I’m engaged and couldn’t be happier. I love this man so much. Of course, a day later I had to celebrate the news w/ two of my closest friends - Lisa and Debi. I’m blessed. I’m happy. I’m so looking forward to continuing our life journey together."
"I said YES. I couldn’t be happier and so looking forward to this new part of our life journey together. I’m blessed. Love you Chris. I love us," she wrote in her Instagram post. Speaking to People, she exclaimed, "I'm excited, I'm so surprised, I'm thrilled! I never in a million years thought I’d be getting married again, but I also hoped for it! Now that it's happening, I couldn't be happier or more excited."
And her relationship is proof that love doesn't care about the differences between people. It hits anyone out of anywhere and only finds what's in our hearts. Of course, before she got engaged, she was resigned to the fact that she would only be able to date and not expect something more out of it. She thought she would make the most of it by having a good time.
"I just never thought someone who is average size would be interested in me," she said in a TLC clip from June 2017. "I just really want him to never question or doubt the relationship because I’m a little person... I just have a good time. I have fun with him. I never thought I’d be dating as a grandma, and it’s nice to experience that and be with someone."
Her children had been worried about her because not only was the actress going through a divorce but also because they were essentially emptying the nest. "I’m glad my mom is getting out. I think that’s good because it would be really easy to just kind of get stuck," Molly had said.
But it looks like her kids don't have to worry anymore as the mother, grandmother, and actress is soon to have another feather in her cap — bride-to-be. We wish Amy Roloff and Chris Marek all the bliss for their married life.
