Designed by the Irish shipbuilder William Pirrie and built in Belfast, the luxury British passenger ship was thought to be the fastest ship of its time. The ship that spanned 883 feet from stern to bow equipped with 16 compartments was also considered to be unsinkable by its builders. However, the ship that started its first journey across the Atlantic ferry route could not complete the voyage.

On its maiden voyage, the ship carried over 2,200 passengers from different places across Europe. They were distributed across the first, second and third classes of the ship. While some of them were in to enjoy a holiday and the luxury offered by the ship, others like Dean's family were looking forward to starting their new lives in America.

On April 14, 1912, the Titanic hit an iceberg that led to the loss of more than 1500 lives. According to the History website, due to the lack of lifeboats and emergency procedures, several people froze to death in the icy North Atlantic waters. This tragic event in modern History inspired many stories, several films, and a musical.

The movie Titanic starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are inspired by these series of events. Though years may pass by, this piece of history will be one of the most tragic events ever. Here are a few images of the Titanic:
