A Virgin Atlantic flight attendant named Leah Amy shared the heartwarming story in a Facebook post.
Sometimes an act of kindness can restore your faith in humanity. Here's one story that's bound to do the same. An 88-year-old woman had always dreamed of sitting in first class on an airplane, so a kind passenger made her wish come true! The touching incident was shared by a flight attendant on the Virgin Atlantic flight on her Facebook page. The airplane passenger named Jack Littlejohn decided to give up his upper-class ticket to the octogenarian named Violet Allison. In her now-viral post, Leah Amy wrote: Of the hundreds of flights I’ve operated, I’ve had the pleasure of looking after footballers, supermodels and some Hollywood movie stars but let me tell you about my two favorite passengers EVER! Jack and Violet (I wish she was called Vera or Rose). Jack and his family purchased seats in our upper-class cabin for a flight home from New York, but when he got on board, Jack went and found violet in economy and swapped seats with her.
“Excuse me, would you like to fly first class?” said Jack, to which the woman replied in disbelief, “You’re joking.” According to The Washington Post, he also said, “Yeah, I’ll give you my seat, and you can fly first class.” The amenities included including dinner, drinks, and a reclining bed. Violet, who was not expecting this switch, was in shock. “Do you believe that?” Allison said to the passenger who was sitting next to her. “Do you think I should do that?” she asked. The passenger told her to go for it! Jack then helped her transfer her bags to the first-class cabin on the double-decker aircraft.
According to Leah Amy's post, the sweet gentleman "then sat on the row of seats directly next to the economy toilets and never made a peep or asked for anything the rest of the flight. No fuss, no attention, literally did it out of the kindness of his own heart, no one asked him too. Violet is 88 years old, has been a nurse in both the UK and over in America. She travels to New York to see her daughter but hasn’t been able to for a while because of a knee replacement. Her dream has always been to sit at the front, and Jack made that come true. You should have seen her face, when I tucked her in her bed after supper. She said her daughter won’t believe her, and wanted a ‘selfie’ to prove it, but didn’t have a phone or an email address. These photos are getting sent in the post tomorrow, can you even cope!"
Littlejohn was in New York for a charity event dedicated to ending global homelessness. On his return to Scotland, his mom surprised him and his siblings with business-class seats. But the inequality between business and economy class didn't sit well with him. He didn't like that economy passengers had to walk through business to get to their seats in the lower portion of the plane and he called it “unhealthy.” So decided to give up his seat. He began looking for a passenger to trade seats with and that's when he saw Allison. There was no doubt in his mind, he instantly knew. “You couldn’t have found a sweeter lady,” he said of the 88-year-old.
