Their relationship has been through a lot of ups and downs but a few defining moments lately, clearly pointed out that they were headed to splitsville
This year is off to a rocky start for the Kardashian-West clan. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is preparing to part ways with her rapper husband after seven years of marriage. The couple share four children, North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 2, and Psalm, 20 months. Rumors of divorce have been going around since the beginning of last year. But it has now been confirmed after Kim hired Laura Wasser as her attorney in preparation for a divorce. A source close to Kim has even stated that "she's done" and "has had enough" of Kanye who was well aware that they would soon be parting ways.
Over the years, there have been many instances that culminated in this divorce. In fact, the insider also revealed that Kim's friends were "surprised she has waited this long to file for divorce.” The cracks in their marriage were all too visible and according to E! News, Kim and Kanye haven't even spent time together as a married couple in months. They have been living separately and only meet occasionally for the sake of their children. "Kim is only focused on what's best for the kids," the source said. "It's a tough decision for her and she's figuring it out."
There have been a few defining moments in their relationship lately that clearly pointed out that they were headed to splitsville.
In July last year, Kanye spoke about his anti-abortion stance at his very first presidential rally. He spoke about how Kim, who at the time of making the decision of their first child was his girlfriend, had called freaking out about her pregnancy. " I was having, like, you know, the rapper’s lifestyle, so she said she was pregnant and for one month and two months and three months we talked about her not having this child. She had the pills in her hand," he said. He then began to cry and said, “I almost killed my daughter,” referring to North.
He then apologized to his wife on Twitter for "going public with something that was a private matter." But there was more to come.
Kanye then went on a Twitter rant where he targeted his wife and her momager, Kris Jenner, whom he referred to as "Kris Jong-Un." In the tweets that have since been deleted, he accused the two women of trying to "lock him up." He wrote, “Kim was trying to fly to Wyoming with a doctor to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughter's life yesterday. If I get locked up like Mandela Y’all will know why.” He even had a thing or two to say about Corey Gamble, Jenner's boyfriend as well as Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and actor Shia LaBeouf.
Kim had brought up the possibility of filing for divorce after this episode. “Kim has been meeting with lawyers to explore and talk about divorce,” a source had said at the time.

Following the series of erratic behavior from Kanye, Kim finally spoke up about dealing with the complicated situation. “I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health,” she stated. She explained how “incredibly complicated and painful” it is to deal with a loved one who has bipolar disorder. Even though the situation was dire, Kim decided to try and make the marriage work. She did not intend to kick a man when he was already down and felt it would be too cruel to file for divorce when Kanye was unwell. This was also around the time Kanye was hospitalized after having a breakdown.
As someone who has bipolar disorder, I want to thank @KimKardashian for this dignified, respectful and compassionate statement about her husband Kanye. Bipolar is complicated, it’s exhausting and it’s misunderstood. The stigma must stop. The shaming headlines must stop. pic.twitter.com/tKZuEgKCeh— Duchess Of Hastings™🇯🇲 מלכּה (@jnoahmorgan) July 22, 2020
Over the years, the couple started to grow apart, in terms of lifestyle as well as political ideologies. In 2019, West disapproved of his wife's Met Gala outfit which he thought was "too sexy" for a married woman and mother of four. In an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kanye said, "I didn't realize that that was affecting like, my soul and my spirit, as someone that's married and loved and the father of now, about to be four kids." He continued. "A corset is like, a form of underwear, it's hot — it's like, it's hot for who, though?" Kim was visibly annoyed at the comments and hit back saying she didn't need "any more negative energy."
Even in terms of political ideologies, Kanye's support of Donald Trump was controversial. Even though the Kardashians supported Joe Biden, Kim worked with the Trumps in her efforts for prison reform. The one thing the two can agree on is being there for their children.
"Now this divorce is happening because Kim has grown up a lot," the insider told Page Six. Kim has also been studying to become a lawyer. “She is serious about taking the bar exam and becoming a lawyer, she is serious about her prison reform campaign,” the source stated. “Meanwhile Kanye is talking about running for president and saying other crazy s–t, and she’s just had enough of it.” The couple's interests and priorities have clearly changed. “They have both been living separate lives for many months now,” a source told Us Weekly. “Kim and Kanye haven’t been on the same page for a while now.”
