Despite their decision as a couple, Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock look forward to co-parenting their kids peacefully.
Every relationship goes through highs and lows. Though we might move on thinking we can find the fix to the issues, sometimes we realize the best fix is to part ways. Much like Kelly Clarkson, the famous singer and television host who filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock after 7 years of marriage.
According to Entertainment Tonight, "Kelly and Brandon had been having problems for several months and were making a conscious effort to work things out. They both hoped quarantining away from L.A. in Montana would help them work things out in their marriage, but instead, the change in environment was actually detrimental," said a source, close to the family.
The source added that isolation made matters worse. "The constant time together seemed to make an already challenging situation worse." They also stated that being engaged with a hectic career, Clarkson did not have the opportunity to deeply introspect her marriage, "However, with the free time that came with the pandemic gave her the time to reexamine her relationship." The source stated that her career "definitely helped to keep her mind off things, but this recent downtime gave her the time she needed to think about her life and her marriage," according to Entertainment Tonight.
It was only after careful thought that Clarkson decided to file for divorce. "Kelly knew she just needed to follow her heart and finally realized divorce was her only option," said the source.
Despite the separation, the duo hasn't cut each other off as they hope to be cordial for their children. "They are both heartbroken, but their plan is to put the kids first. Their focus is on co-parenting and moving forward, as this is the last place they ever thought they would be. They both understand divorce is never easy for children, but Kelly and Brandon are great parents. It'll just take time," according to Cosmopolitan.
According to People, the 38-year-old singer filed the divorce papers on 4 June 2020, citing irreconcilable differences. However, the couple has refrained from making any statements regarding their decision.
The singer along with her husband and kids were in isolation at their Montana ranch for the past couple of months. Clarkson even filmed remote episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show during the social distancing period. "It's a really beautiful ranch and it’s a nice getaway for our family. It's something Brandon and I have dreamed about since we were both kids. This is what we would call home," said the mother of two, during one of the recent episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show, according to People.
The star even celebrated her 38th birthday in the ranch recently. Her husband and child posted an adorable video wishing the singer on her special day. "Happy birthday baby. I love you more than you'll ever know," said Blackstock in the video, according to People.
Nobody realized there was trouble in paradise. Blackstock and Clarkson have had a great time together, with Clarkson gushing about it pretty often. "This isn't a downer to anybody I dated before him, but I’m just going to be real: I never felt like, honestly, sexually attracted to anybody before him. And I'm not downing my exes, you know, everybody’s different. But there was something about him," said Clarkson in 2017 during a SiriusXM interview, according to People. Apart from crediting him for being a great partner, she has also talked of his efficient parenting. The singer, who was abandoned by her father as a child, said her husband reinforced her faith and showed her how a father can love his child by taking care of their daughter.
Clarkson and Blackstock met each other in 2006 during a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards. The duo were good friends before their relationship turned into a romance. "Right when I got those bangs was right when I started dating my husband. I remember that because my Super Bowl performance, that was, like, our first time we started flirting. And I was like, 'I'm so into you, make out with me!'" said Clarkson, according to Country Living. Ten months after dating, Clarkson tied the knot with Blackstock.
