Sandra Bullock Reveals Incredibly Romantic Gesture Keanu Reeves Made 25 Years Ago

The two actors have never been anything more than just friends and Bullock recently explained why.

Apart from winning two Academy Awards, the American action thriller movie Speed is known for its two stars who made us swoon with their on-screen charisma. Not only did Sandra Bullock who played the role of a bus passenger, Annie Porte, and Keanu Reeves, who appeared as Jack Traven LAPD, do justice to the movie with their outstanding performance, but their screen presence was second to none. Although it's been over 27 years since the movie was released, people still cannot stop wondering about the possibility of their on-screen chemistry translating into something real. But the two actors have never been anything more than just friends and Bullock recently explained why.

During an interview with Esquire magazine, Bullock admitted that she never wanted to cross the line with Reeves as she feared it may have ruined their friendship. "Nope," she said recalling the dating rumors. "But who knows? Keanu’s a guy who, I feel like, is friends with every woman he’s ever dated. I don’t think there’s anyone who has something horrible to say about him. So maybe we could have survived. I don’t know." She continued, "But we didn’t have to survive anything. We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for a dinner and try to work together. And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being. Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not."

The Bird Box star, who first met Reeves in 1994 on the set of Speed, also opened about a sweet gesture that the John Wick actor had done for her. She remembers him pulling up to her home with Champagne and truffles, a year after their film's release. Apparently, he was surprised at the fact that she had never had them before and wanted her to try it. "I just thought you might want to try Champagne and truffles, to see what it’s like," said the Matrix star as they sat on her couch. That being said, the actor did not stay for long as he had a date with someone else. "That’s what I mean that it drives you crazy," Bullock explained.

"When I first met him, I would spend as much time as I could filling a silence, just to feel comfortable. And the more I jibber-jabbered on, the quieter he would get. And I thought, 'I don’t understand what’s happening! He’s looking at me with eyes of confusion. He’s quiet. Did I say something to offend him?' And then a day or two later, he would arrive with a note or a little package, saying, ‘I thought about what you said.’ And he would have his response," she shared, adding, "How many people do you know like that?"

Previously the Miss Congeniality actress appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show and opened up about her attraction towards her Speed co-star. "It was hard for me to like, really be serious. Like, he would look at me and I’d be like [giggles]. And I’d have to try to, you know [be serious]," Bullock told DeGeneres, according to PEOPLE. She also recalled the time, he kept her dress from flying. When asked why they never got together romantically, she said, "There’s just something about me that I guess he didn’t like!" Meanwhile, Reeves, who appeared on the talk show, admitted that he did have a crush on Bullock while they were shooting the movie and was not aware of Bullock's feelings either.

When the show's host said she couldn't believe that they never got together despite having feelings for each other, Reeves being the gentleman he is noted, "We were working. It was nice to go to work. She’s such a wonderful person." Maybe that's why, they stayed friends for so long and even came together for a 2006 movie, The Lake House. Now, they share an unexplainable bond of comfort. "I don't want to say it's a comfort, but it's an ease for me to look at him directly in places when I'm not comfortable with myself, I can look him in the eye and feel that I have a place there. There are other people, you can look in their eyes and not feel that you are supposed to be there. I think that was a nice luxury for me. I know what it's like to remember him. We have a nice history. There's a great level of comfort that I have," said Sandra according to Entertainment Online.
