Keanu Reeves' Refusal To Insult Winona Ryder Despite Being Asked By Director Shows The Kind Of Gentleman He Is

Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder became great friends after the incident.

Keanu Reeves is undoubtedly one of the most loved actors in Hollywood. While his flawless acting and charming looks are some of the reasons behind his popularity, there is more to the actor.

Reeves is admired and applauded for being a true gentleman. His generous heart and etiquette have often made headlines and it has become another reason for people to love him. Recently, one of his co-stars too had something commendable about the actor.

According to People, Winona Ryder, who starred alongside Reeves in the 1992 movie, Bram Stoker's Dracula, recalled an incident that happened on the movie set. She spoke of how the actor defended her even when the director of the movie allegedly asked others to hurl insults at her.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, she reminisced a scene where she had to enact with terror and shock. However, Ryder's acting needed more tears, according to the director Francis Ford Coppola. In an attempt to get her to cry and showcase the emotions he had in mind, he began to shout insults at the woman.

He even called her, "you whore!" trying to make her emotional. He then told Ryder's co-stars to accompany him in hurling insults. However, Reeves refused to join in. He just would not do it even if it was for the sake of getting her to get the right emotions for the scene.

"To put it in context I’m supposed to be crying. Literally, Richard E. Grant, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu … Francis was trying to get all of them to yell things that would make me cry, but Keanu wouldn’t, Anthony wouldn’t. ... It just didn’t work," recalled the 48-year-old. She added, "I was, like, really? It kind of did the opposite."

This experience with Reeves changed their relationship. The star said it led to a long time "kinship" with the Matrix star. On the other hand, the actress admitted that her relationship with Coppola improved and is "good now."

As for Reeves and Ryder, they developed a deep bond of friendship and starred together in movies like A Scanner Darkly (2006), The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009), and Destination Wedding (2018).

Previously, the John Wick actor gushed about Ryder. He said, "Winona is a lovely person and a talented actress. I think we make a good couple, and I liked that it’s a two-hander. To them, nobody else matters anyway, right? We did something like five eight-minute scenes, which you don’t often get a chance to do in films," according to People.

Meanwhile, Reeves' gentleman attributes have been noticed by his fans too. Photos of the actor with his fans went viral on the internet and many noticed the way he stood next to his fans in the pictures.

They observed that he never touched the women, who stood next to him for a shot. Reeves was also seen doing the same when it came to other female celebrities. While some of them joked about it, others could not get over his consideration and respect towards others, according to People.

Besides it, Reeves is known for his generosity even though he does not brag about his charitable endeavors. Recently, according to People, the actor was part of a  charity auction to help fund Camp Rainbow Gold, a children’s cancer organization.

The organization aims to provide emotionally empowering experiences to cancer-stricken children in  Idaho. The lucky winner of the auction had the opportunity to participate in a 15-minute Zoom chat with the actor. Having seen his own sister Kim suffer from cancer, the actor feels it is important for him to reach out to others going through similar journeys.

Additionally, the actor also used his social distancing time to encourage students who graduated recently. "Yeah, congratulations to the graduating class of 2020. Well done! And party on," said the actor to the students, who did not have the chance to experience the usual graduation ceremony.
