"I’m The Lonely Guy," Says Keanu Reeves As He Opens Up About His Thoughts On Romantic Love

"I don’t socialize a lot but I have good friends and I have a very good life. I just don’t do anything to attract any attention to myself and I find it’s much easier to live that way.”

Fame and fortune can change people in many ways; sometimes, it can even bring out the worst in you. But Keanu Reeves is a wonderful exception. He has remained down to earth and humble through all the blockbuster success he's had. What's most likable about him is that he never bothers with putting on a facade. The world often gets to see his wonderful, kind, and considerate personality come through, especially when he does the most ordinary things that most big stars stay away from.

He likes to keep to himself and has no qualms about it. In a recent interview covered by The Jakarta Post, he was asked what love means to him.

"You mean romantic love?" he replied. "You know, I’m the lonely guy. I don’t have anyone in my life. But if it does occur, I would respect and love the other person; hopefully, it’ll happen for me."

He knows that being alone isn't something to be daunted by. When the interviewer went on to say, "You describe yourself as a lonely guy. Are you content with that?" to which he replied saying, "I don’t concern myself with it that much. I’m an actor, so in terms of what you’re asking about, I have no answer."

When you look at the way the actor carries himself, you can see that he's not someone who lets his relationship status or the money in his account define him. He's been through the most devastating, painful experiences, and that's probably what makes him so true to himself and not change for the world.

Ever since he was a child, he's known the bitterness of hardships, starting with his relationship with his father who abandoned him and his family, according to CheatSheet. Later, he had to deal with the death of his best friend, his own daughter who was stillborn, and his girlfriend, Jennifer Syme, who was the mother of the daughter he never got to raise.

“I think, after loss, life requires an act of reclaiming,” Keanu Reeves said, according to LiveJournal. “You have to reject being overwhelmed. Life has to go on.

“Grief changes shape, but it never ends,” he added.

Although he's had painful experiences, he didn't let himself turn bitter because of them. Instead, he learned what he had to from them and kept moving forward. “Much of my appreciation of life has come through loss,” he said. “Life is precious. It’s worthwhile.”

The actor seems to have known the true value of life for a while now, because he did not give money as much importance as one would this. When the sequels of The Matrix was bringing in the big bucks for the makers and cast of the franchise, the face of the movie had other plans. Reeves decided he'd much rather share his profits, which amounted to about $40million,  with the crew, who had also helped contribute just as much to the success of The Matrix as everyone else. However, given the humble guy he is, Reeves did not seem to like discussing it or talking about it in the media.

“I’d rather people didn’t know that. It was a private transaction. It was something I could afford to do, a worthwhile thing to do,” Reeves said.

If you're someone who generally takes the subway, don't be surprised if you see the 54-year-old sitting a few seats away from you. But that's not all. He's the kind of gentleman who will even give up his seat for someone, as he once did on the Q train in New York where he offered his seat to a woman.

"Money is the last thing I think about. I could live on what I have already made for the next few centuries," said Keanu Reeves, according to HELLO!

For Keanu Reeves, it's not the money or fame that matters to him. “I’m not looking for a red carpet to walk, and I’m not trying to have a celebrity footprint,” he said, according to Men's Journal. “I can see the appeal—it’s just not to my taste.”

That's probably why he continues to live life the way he chooses to, which is unlike many other stars. He would never hesitate to interact with strangers, as he did once when his flight had to make an emergency landing, after which, he and his fellow co-passengers had to take a van to Los Angeles. He didn't seem out of place at all and was even reading out fun facts about Bakersfield to his co-passengers and playing music for them, according to Time.

He's also the kind of person who would give money to noble causes but not want to attach his name to it. It was reported that the stary donated 70 percent of what he earned from Matrix in the name of cancer research. He has even set up a foundation in his sister's name, and said, “I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research. I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”

Keanu Reeves is a successful actor who has it all. But he still likes to keep things simple and stay away from the spotlight. According to square mile, he said, "I don’t socialize a lot but I have good friends and I have a very good life. I just don’t do anything to attract any attention to myself and I find it’s much easier to live that way.”

"If you have been brutally broken but still have the courage to be gentle to other living beings, then you’re a badass with a heart of an angel," he said, according to Goalcast, and it's certainly something that resonates with his own life.
