The 'Speed' actors, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock shared great chemistry on screen. The two actors who were clearly attracted to each other would have been a heavenly match if their romance translated into something real.
The year 1994 is remembered for a lot of entertainment milestones, for example, the debut of the sitcom Friends and the release of some exceptional movies. The American action thriller Speed is one of those movies that changed our world forever. The critically and commercially hit movie which gathered two Academy awards was not only known for its entertainment and production value but was also known for the coming together of two stars who captured our heart with their on-screen charisma.
Keanu Reeves, who played Jack Traven LAPD and Sandra Bullock who played Annie Porte, a bus passenger, gave us goosebumps with their outstanding performance and a screen presence like no other. Even though the film was released about 25 years ago, nobody has ever stopped talking about the possibility of their on-screen chemistry translating into something real.
Speed was one of the perfect action movies of its time. Not only did it have sequenced action scenes and mind-blowing dialogues, but it was also a romantic comedy in disguise that brought together Keanu and Sandra. The audience was thrilled to watch Jack and Annie who complemented each other and believed in that connection they shared.
The interviews that followed also showed Sandra appreciating Keanu for his manners and Keanu gushing when Sandra gave him a tight hug. All of this gave us hopes for a new budding romance but Reeves was right when he said, "Relationships that start under intense circumstances, they never last."
In recent interviews, the two stars opened up about their attraction to each other. Now some of us did get our hopes high even though it has been years. According to People in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Sandra Bullock confessed that co-star did get her heart beat a little faster than normal. “It was hard for me to like, really be serious. Like, he would look at me and I’d be like [giggles]. And I’d have to try to, you know [be serious],” said Sandra. She even told Ellen how the John Wick actor kept her dress from flying. When asked why they never dated, she said, "There’s just something about me that I guess he didn’t like!"
Keanu blushed admitting that he had a crush on his co-star Sandra while they were shooting the movie. When Ellen said, she couldn't believe that both of them had feelings towards each other, Keanu being the perfect gentleman said, "We were working. It was nice to go to work. She’s such a wonderful person."
Though the two were friends they did not connect back in a romantic way. Sandra who was always known for her vibrant girl next door characters transformed different especially in movies like Miss Congeniality, The Net and While You Were Sleeping. Keanu, on the other hand, has remained the loner action hero in movies like John Wick and The Matrix.
The actors came together for another movie The Lake House which was released in 2006. It showed them falling in love on screen but the truth was life had gone in two different directions for the two actors. But they always shared unexplainable ease and connection. "I don't want to say it's a comfort, but it's an ease for me to look at him directly in places when I'm not comfortable with myself, I can look him in the eye and feel that I have a place there. There are other people, you can look in their eyes and not feel that you are supposed to be there. I think that was a nice luxury for me. I know what it's like to remember him. We have a nice history. There's a great level of comfort that I have," said Sandra quoted Entertainment Online.
Sandra has moved on with her relationship with photographer Bryan Randall and Keanu is still single. But that comfortable bond still remains.
