Alex Rodriguez was always a fanboy and knew he wanted to take the singer out on a date. As years passed away, his dream became a reality.
Life takes you through a lot of unexpected turns and twists that it leaves you astonished. Many things that you thought would never be a reality became one. But there many stories that show us that if you wish for something with all your heart, it can come true. Baseball player Alex Rodriguez is a classic example of it. Even before meeting singer and actress, Jennifer Lopez, the man dreamed of taking her out. In 1998, the Yankees player stated his dream date was Jennifer Lopez. About 20 years later, he was living that dream. She became more than just a dream date to him.
Jennifer Lopez met Rodriguez in 2005 during a game. Rodriguez who was always a JLo fan felt a certain sensation go through him during their first handshake. "We shook hands, and it was this weird electricity for, like, three seconds... Three to five seconds of looking at somebody right in their eyes, and getting stuck," recalled the 44-year-old.
However, the two individuals, who were married to other people then, went their way after the brief encounter. But destiny brought them together again. In 2017, Lopez approached the retired player by surprise. Recalling their meeting that day, Rodriguez told Ellen, "Someone taps me on the shoulder, and I turn around and I do not recognize this person. And it’s Jennifer, but she’s dressed up as Harlee from Shades of Blue, and she’s in her jeans and her big boots. And it took me about four or five seconds. And she said, ‘It’s Jennifer! It’s Jennifer!’ I go, ‘Oh my God, Jennifer, you look beautiful.’ I was so embarrassed and then I got a little nervous, and I’m like, ‘This is so goofy,’ we all know who Jennifer is and she’s everywhere. Then we basically had a small chit-chat.” He continued, "I describe it as the luckiest day of my life."
That encounter did not end at that "small chit chat." It was just the beginning of their fairytale romance. They were clearly smitten and the two started dating in February 2017. Less than two weeks into dating, Rodriguez surprised his lady love with flowers, chocolates, and cakes on Valentine's Day. At that point, Lopez realized he really liked her.
Soon, their romance became official and the two were seen together on red carpets. They gushed about each other on talk shows and did not hide their appreciation for each other. "We’ve been having a great time. She’s an amazing, amazing girl. One of the smartest human beings I’ve ever met and also an incredible mother," said the retired player.
The two are surely each other's cheerleaders too. “Both of us show up for each other and that’s a big deal in a relationship, especially when you are both strong people who have two big lives. That means him coming to concerts, me going to his ball game, all that stuff,” said the singer, according to Mirror Online. They even brought together their children from their previous marriage and celebrated festivals together. They soon came to become one big, blended family.
On their two year anniversary, the Shall We Dance actress took to Instagram and wrote, "You make my world a more beautiful safe and stable place... in the midst of our ever-changing, ever-moving life... you make me feel like a teenager starting out all over again... Every time I think I have you pegged, you surprise me in the most wonderful ways reminding me how blessed I am to have found you now in this moment at this time... our time... Te Amo Macho..."
The athlete too opened up his heart on social media. He said, "We are meant to be, and how much you mean to me cannot be put into words... Where this road will take us next is unknown but there is no one else I would rather have by my side. The journey is just beginning and I am excited for what’s ahead."
He continued, "Your relentless drive and determination push me to be a better man each and every day. Like you, there is none other. Words will never do justice to what the last two years have meant to me. Thank you for always being you, for your unwavering support and unconditional love."
Soon, Rodriguez popped the big question to his lady love. The fanboy was finally asked his life long crush to marry him after planning it for over 6 months. "I planned it for about six months. Three days prior to me going down on one knee and getting engaged and asking for it, I rehearsed three days in a row because I wanted the sunset to be perfect," told the baseball player to Jimmy Fallon.
Lopez could not be happier and flaunted her ring proudly. She hopes to tie the knot but is in no hurry. "There's no rush. We really see this as something that's gonna be forever, and we're gonna just take our time and do it right. And do it not rushed," said the 50-year-old, according to ET Online.
However, she says he is the one for her. "I mean, we're very similar... we have a tremendous amount of respect for each other... He knows I only have his best interest at heart, and I only want him to thrive and succeed and to be his best self. And I believe that he wants that for me. He wants me to be seen and to get what I deserve. Like, he's made his half a billion. And he's like, 'I want you to have that.' Romance!" said Lopez to GQ. The love birds seem to be living a fairy tale filled with nothing but romance.
