"She's so amazing... She's an angel. She's amazing. God bless her," Jason Momoa said about his "dream woman."
A few decades ago, when Jason Momoa was just eight years old, he sat watching The Cosby Show along with a throng of viewers across the country. But young Momoa had his eyes mostly on one person alone, Lisa Bonet who played the role of Denise Huxtable on the show. He was instantly smitten, having no idea that one day she would indeed fall in love with him and become his wife.
"Ever since I was like, 8 years old and I saw her on the TV, I was like, 'Mommy, I want that one,'" The Game of Thrones actor told James Corden on The Late Late Show, as reported by Oprah Magazine. "I'm like, 'I'm going to stalk you for the rest of my life and I’m going to get you.'"
He blushed and told Esquire that she was "literally my childhood crush."
But for years, the star of Aquaman never confessed to Bonet about his intense adoration for her. "I didn’t tell her that until we had two babies," he said, "otherwise, I’d be creepy and weird. But yeah, just always wanted to meet her. She was a queen, always."
It was in 2005 when Momoa finally met his childhood crush in person at a jazz club. "We just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” he said, as quoted by People. "I actually had dreaded my hair for her. I had dreadlocks, she had dreadlocks. I literally turned around and I see her and she goes, 'I'm Lisa.' I turned around to my friend and I [pretended to scream]. I had f—ing fireworks going off inside, man. I convinced her to take me home, because I was living in a hotel."
Later "...We had Guinness and grits, and the rest is history," the actor said.
While Momoa carried his admiration for her for many years, Bonet had a different experience as she fell in love with a man who was about 12 years younger than her. "I can’t say it was full-on from the moment we saw each other, but we have been together from the day that we met," she told NET-A-PORTER. "In that moment, love came and it came big, and he did not run as I think a lot of men do."
Momoa was everything she needed him to be, as Bonet reveals, "What’s cool about Jason is that he’s an alpha male who stands for love and family. And to circle back to my own wounds, having an absent father, then to be fully met by a man of that stature, is really incredible. Jason embodies a rare form of masculinity in this day and age – he’s a leader; he’s generous. Just in terms of charisma, physique, the right use of power, responsibility, work ethic, you can go down the line."
Momoa, who is now 40 and Bonet, who is turning 52 on November 16, 2019, have two children together since they started dating in 2005. In October 2017, the couple exchanged wedding vows and have a happy family together.
"My wife is amazing," Momoa said. “Her ultimate art form is being a phenomenal mother."
As he gushed about his wife, he said, "Not a lot of people know how absolutely hysterical she is. She makes me laugh and is just really quirky."
When he spoke to HuffPost, he admitted that she is his "dream woman" and said, "She's so amazing... She's an angel. She's amazing. God bless her."
After crushing on someone at the age of 8 and then going on to marry her years later, the devoted husband and father believes that taking chances can eventually pay of. "If someone says something isn’t possible," Momoa said "I'm like, 'Listen here, I married Lisa Bonet. Anything is f—ing possible."
Seeing how happy they make each other, one would certainly agree with the actor when he says, "We are a perfect fit."
