Jane Fonda's Cheating Ex Coerced Her to Have Threesomes & Exploited Her Broken Self Worth| "..It Was Killing My Heart"

Jane Fonda revealed the details of her first marriage in her autobiography "My Life So Far".

Some events leave a lasting impression on us. It changes our perspective and sometimes it forces us to do things we do not want to do. American actress Jane Fonda went through such a phase during her marriage to her first husband, Roger Vadim. The actress, who lost her mother at the age of 12, thought she had found a partner who would be the soothing salve to her broken self-worth. But a few months into the marriage, her expectations were shattered.

Fonda married Vadim in August 1965. The French director was 10 years elder than her but Fonda was very much attracted to him.

"What I found as irresistible about him as the sex was his attachment to his little daughter. (I thought) he must be a good man to love his daughter that way," recalled the actress, according to the Daily Mail. Initially, their marriage was as exciting and joyous as she expected it to be. But as days went by, she discovered her husband's true colors.

In her autobiography My Life So Far, the actress revealed that her relationship was toxic. She stated that her husband encouraged her to have threesomes after she discovered he was cheating on her. In addition to it, the actress was also asked to find other women to join their tryst. Struggling with insecurity and low self-esteem, the actress gave in to her partner's desires. Recalling the events, Fonda stated that it made her feel "less than perfect."

"For me with Roger Vadim, that meant bringing other women into our bed," wrote the actress, according to Evening Standard. She continued, "It seems shocking that I did that, but I managed to convince myself that it was fine, that I wanted to, even though it was killing my heart."

Looking back, Fonda revealed how she reluctantly tried to treat those sexual practices as normal even when she did not believe it. "I had never even thought about a threesome but I treated it as if it was the most normal thing on earth. So threesomes became foursomes – always girls. I convinced myself that I enjoyed it. We reached a point when I would go and do the soliciting. Always discreetly, of course, through a high-class agency. Yet I was supposed to be clever and my own woman. I was anything but," wrote Fonda, according to Express UK.

But she still clung on to her husband. This fierce co-dependency may have stemmed from her dysfunctional relationship with her father, especially after her mom's death. Fonda was shattered after she died and struggled with self-worth. She said, "Before my mother’s death I was feisty, I was ambitious, I was brave. Suddenly I was nothing to myself. You could have put what was left of me into a thimble." Yet she did not find any comfort or support in her father. "I never had a real, long conversation with my dad in my entire life," she said, according to Daily Mail.

Without even realizing how much she was entangled in her husband's life, Fonda continued to give in to his demands. She fulfilled his sexual fantasies and was even forced to pay off his massive gambling debts. "Even now, I can’t believe I took the risks. The personal feeling of having no self-worth was bad enough," wrote the actress.

In her book, the 82-year-old stated that on one occasion, her husband bought home a prostitute from Paris. Without giving it much thought, she "threw" herself into the "threesome with the skill and enthusiasm of the actress" she was. Though the relationship had begun taking a toll on Fonda, she could not imagine her life without Vadim. "He validated me. I couldn’t conceive of leaving him," wrote Fonda. She continued, "I ceased eating except for crusts from his bread and rinds from his camembert," according to Evening Standard.

Soon, the actress realized the relationship was a mistake and parted ways with him in 1973.
