Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell Reveal The Sole Secret To Their 35 Years Of Romance

They have spent three and a half decades together, but seeing them now still feels like they are two twenty-year-olds that are head over heels in love with each other.

They have spent three and a half decades together but their love for each other only seems to grow day by day. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been Hollywood's favorite couple, and even when you see them together now, they both still seem like twenty-year-olds that are head over heels in love with each other.

When they first met in 1968 on the sets of The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, there was some chemistry but it didn't turn into anything. "I was 21 and he was 16," Goldie Hawn said in an interview with BBC Radio 4, according to Oprah Magazine. "I thought he was adorable, but he was much too young. Then, years later we met up again, and I remembered that I liked him very much when I first met him. We both said we would never go out with another actor so it just shows you never can tell."

They had dated other people and even married other people initially. They were almost going in two completely separate ways until destiny brought them back together at an audition for their next movie, Swing Shift, according to World Traveling. And they couldn't ignore the sparks.

She told People that she remembers thinking, "He was so good-looking, but he had no pretense about him. I could tell right away he wasn’t a womanizer."

While they may have been on plenty of dates over the three decades of their relationship, one they would never forget was the very first one. They had gone to the Playboy Club for some swing dancing and they were ready to let the night come to an end. So, they decided to go to the place that Goldie Hawn had recently purchased at the time to renovate. But there was one problem. She had left the key at her house, which meant that they both had to break in to get inside.

“We eventually found our way upstairs, looking around at imaginary furniture and we were in the imaginary bedroom, now, and we are realistically having sex,” he laughed and said, according to People, “when the police walked in because we had to break into the place to get in.”

That was the beginning of their whirlwind romance. They had done everything that a happy couple would do — stay devoted to each other, loving each other through the obstacles, and even do a smashing job at raising their children. But the one thing they didn't do was exchange wedding vows.

"...we have done just perfectly without marrying. I already feel devoted and isn't that what marriage is supposed to do? So as long as my emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring and loving, then we're fine," Goldie Hawn told Now To Love. We both have independent finances, we're both independently well-off. We have raised our children brilliantly; they are beautiful people. We did a great job there and we didn't have to get married to do that."

While they may be Hollywood stars, they are still a couple just like any other. Goldie Hawn said, "I think the secret is to know when to depend on somebody and when not to. It's important that you are able to hold up your side of the house. I believe that one person can't bear the whole burden because then their shoulders start getting heavy."

Both of them had children from their previous marriages. But they all become one, tight-knit family. They both received their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at the same time in a joint ceremony, according to Hello!

That day, Kurt Russell turned to the love of his life and said, "Goldie to you, I owe my wonderful life. Simply put Goldie, I cherish you. All of the stars in the sky or the boulevard don't hold a candle to that. There's no one else I'd rather be next to than Goldie Hawn."

They see themselves as any other couple. Kurt Russell explained, "I don’t think Goldie and I, in real terms, are any different than any other couple; we go through all the same things." He continued to say, “But the important thing of who the two people are in a relationship is what you have to deal with. There’s gonna be ups and downs and sideways and everything else … I just think after 34 years you’re gonna have experienced every emotion that you can together."

It's been about 35 years since they first fell in love, but to the world, it seems as though they fall in love with each other every day.
