Harrison Ford met his wife during the 2002 Golden Globes awards. They dated for more than seven years before tying the knot.
Finding a partner, who supports your passions and allows you to be yourself is a blessing. Harrison Ford, the 90s charming actor was lucky to find a woman of his dreams. Married to Ally McBeal actress Calista Flockhart for over 11 years, the actor reveals why she is the perfect match for him.
On 5 March 2015, the actor was rushed to the emergency room after he met with a horrific plane crash while flying his Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR – a restored World War II-era trainer, according to People. Ford, who is very fond of flying, was left with severe injuries.
He suffered a large laceration on his scalp, a broken back, a shattered pelvis, and a broken right angle. The news was heartbreaking to Flockhart. She rushed to the hospital to be by the side of the 78-year-old. She remained with him for hours as he struggled through the pain and underwent treatments.
Sources close to the couple stated, "Calista spent most of the weekend by Harrison’s side. She arrived early every morning and returned home late every night. She was under stress," according to People. She waited patiently for her husband to recover. It took him several days. But when he recovered, Flockhart did not stop him from doing what he loved.
Besides allowing him to pursue his dreams, she also joins him in his mini-adventures on his planes. “My wife, who is a wonderful lady, understands my passion for aviation, she understands what it means to me and flies with me to this day,” Ford said after his recovery, according to People.
In fact, Ford revealed Flockhart loved flying just a year after they fell in love in 2002. At the time, he added, "Calista loves to fly, and I’m thrilled because it’s so important to me and it’s the kind of thing that’s so much more fun with somebody who really enjoys it," said the actor.
He also stated that his happiness was very important to his partner. "Calista likes the process, she likes what she sees from the air, she likes seeing me happy. I think a lot of it has to do with that she loves to see me doing something that I love," said Ford, according to People.
Flockhart added that she trusted her partner's flying skills. “I had always been a little nervous about flying, but when we went for the first time – I think to Santa Barbara – I wasn’t nervous at all. I loved it. I also think I love it because I really trust Harrison,” according to People.
Ford met his lady love in 2002 at the Golden Globes where he was honored with a lifetime achievement award. The couple was smitten but Ford was still legally married to his second wife despite their separation.
Soon after, the actor proclaimed his love for Flockhart publically. "I’m in love. Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life. I was not surprised that I was able to fall in love, and I wasn’t surprised that I did," said the Star Wars star, according to Fox News. Since then, the couple has been together through thick and thin.
After dating for more than 7 years, Ford finally popped the question in 2009. It was followed by an intimate wedding in Santa Fe, Mexico. Their love for each other has only increased over the years.
While people question the longevity of their marriage due to their 22 year age gap, Flockhart says it has never been a negative point in their relationship.
“It doesn’t faze me. Sometimes I even say, ‘Wow, I keep forgetting that he’s 22 years older than me’. It doesn’t factor into our relationship at all. I like the way he looks first thing in the morning. It’s not handsome, it’s more cute. He looks like a little boy,” said the actress, according to Fox News.
Undoubtedly, they share a happy marriage with their child Liam, who Flockhart had adopted in 2001.
