Confiding in friends during the most unhelpful situations helps us sail through them. After all, that’s what friends are for. One person however regretted sharing their personal financial situation with their friend. They were discussing finance and the current crash crunch with a friend led to an outrageous spat with her “rich” friend. A few days later, she questioned herself if it was necessary or too harsh on her part to do so. User u/Spiritual-Vanilla-87 writes on Reddit to explain what happened between her and her friend Hailey.

“My friend, Hailey has everything,” she begins the post as she writes about her possessions, “Her flat, a car, a well-paying job and she goes to at least 2-3 foreign holidays with her husband per year. Meanwhile, I have to rent, haven’t been abroad in probably 10 years, and almost live paycheck to paycheck,” as she explained her financial condition to the readers. “She is my oldest friend and our differences haven’t caused any problems between us in the past, but now that our country is heading into a recession, she has started to be a bit too much,” she writes further as the post reads how the two generally held conversations about finance and recession.
What irked the post writer was the fact that Hailey would often complain about rising prices and hiking situation despite having a seemingly good financial stature, “Every time we meet, she complains about money. How everything is so expensive. They will probably only go abroad once next year and will have to vacation in our own country during the summer,” she writes as it irritated the Redditor to such an extent that she snapped on her friend when she says she had no idea how they will bring up a child in such economic circumstances. “I told her that I’m sick of her constant whining about not being even richer, not having one extra room in her flat, and only going to Barcelona for 4 days next year,” as she justifies her rude behavior.
“She told me she had no idea I think of her like this and she can lend me some money if I need it. Then proceeded to play the victim, telling me that she is not rich at all, she lives in the same world as I do and inflation is affecting her too,” after which the two didn’t meet. The readers in the thread claimed how rude the writer’s behavior was and just because she is going through something doesn’t mean she has to compete over it with her friend who comes to her with her concern. It isn’t a race to win when people pour out their hearts and talk about their problems which might seem trivial in front of the issues you go through.
