Dodi Fayed Was So Special That Diana Gave Him The Last Gift She Got From Her Dad, The Man She "Loved Most In The World"

Dodi Fayed wanted to propose to the princess the night they died in the accident.

Princess Diana was a kind and humble human being. She loved people and showed compassion to everyone. Despite her good attributes, the princess was not blessed with a happy marriage. Though she always wore a wide smile, her heart was disturbed by her troubled marriage and her husband's affair. However, after her divorce from Prince Charles, Diana went on to find happiness in her romantic life. Her relationship with Dodi Fayed added a lot of colors to her dull life. And so, the Princess had a very special place for Fayed in her heart. To show how much he meant to him, the Princess gave him a very special gift.

Along with a letter she wrote Fayed, the Princess sent him her father's last gift to her. "Darling Dodi, These cufflinks were the very last gift that I received from the man I loved most in the world, my father. They are given to you as I know how much joy it would give him to know they were in such safe and special hands. Fondest love, from Diana," wrote Diana, according to Mirror Online. It was her way of showing him the place he had in her life.

According to CheatSheet, Diana met Fayed after she was invited by his father to spend a holiday on a yacht in the south of France in 1997. The Princess along with her sons, William and Harry went on holiday and it turned out to be a good decision.

The Princess was smitten and the couple enjoyed each other's company during their time at the yacht. Even after the vacation ended, Diana remained connected to the business man's son. She wrote letters to him and thanked him for the beautiful days he gifted her while they were together.

"Darling Dodi, Heaven knows where on earth I begin to thank you for the most magical six days on the ocean waves. It is a bit of an Oh my God situation. I adored it all and every possible minute was full of laughter and happiness, and that combination is a serious treat," wrote Diana on August 6, 1997, according to Mirror Online.

She concluded the letter saying, "This comes with all the love in the world and, as always, a million heartfelt thanks for bringing such joy into this particular chick's life, from Diana xx."

They shared an incredible love for each other and the Princess spend a lot of time with Fayed. "The Princess loved Dodi's soft, gentle voice with a touch of a Californian accent... Whenever I saw the Princess that summer she was full of fun," wrote BBC royal correspondent Michael Cole, according to Express UK.

He added, "Dodi was prepared to bear that burden and I know the Princess appreciated that. But what most attracted Diana to Dodi was the love she saw within the Fayed family," according to Express UK.

Though they had only started dating for a while, Fayed wanted Diana to be a part of his life. Less than a month into the relationship, Fayed bought a ring to propose to the Princess. However, fate took a cruel turn before their relationship could escalate to the next step. The press always surrounded the couple and Fayed wanted to propose to the Princess in private.

On 30 August 1997, Fayed decided it was time to ask the princess to marry him. The couple flew down to Paris. While Diana thought it was just another casual meeting, Fayed had set his mind on the proposal. He told his butler about the plan and waited to get back to their hotel room to ask the princess's hand. However, the couple did not make it to the hotel room. That night on the way to the hotel, they met with an accident. According to The Washington Post, "The ring was on the nightstand in his bedroom. Dodi had checked to make sure they had several bottles of Dom PĂ©rignon on ice for the big moment," wrote author Christopher Anderson wrote in The Day Diana Died.

Diana and Fayed could not unite in marriage but they gave each other a couple of beautiful days filled with affection and love.
