Daughter Katie Rushed To David Cassidy's Side On His Deathbed Despite Him Saying "I Wasn’t Her Father."

"My dad was a wonderful, wonderful person. Sadly, he had some demons," said Katie.

No matter how strained a daughter's relationship is with her father, she will always have a special place for him deep down in her heart. Katie Cassidy's relationship with her father David Cassidy was such a kind. Though they had a strained relationship, Katie rushed to her father's side when she knew he was not going to be around for long.

According to Mirror Online, Katie was told that her father's health was deteriorating when she was attending the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Atlanta. Heartbroken by the news, Katie left her engagements to be with her father.

She managed to be by his side as he took his last breath on 21 November 2017.

Later, the actress took to Twitter to share her grief. She also revealed the last words of her father. "Words cant express the solace our family’s received from all the love & support during this trying time. My father’s last words were 'So much wasted time.' This will be a daily reminder for me to share my gratitude with those I love as to never waste another minute....thank you," said the 34-year-old.

Katie Cassidy was born to The Patridge Family actor during his short term relationship with model Sherry Williams. After the couple broke up, the father-daughter duo did not spend a lot of time with each other.

While Katie was raised by her mother and her stepfather Richard Benedon, her father moved forward with new relationships. Years later, he welcomed his second son, Beau with his third wife.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Katie revealed that she did not meet her father until her fourth grade. “The world doesn’t know that. Not because I’m hiding it, it just hasn’t been discussed," said Katie.

Despite their circumstances at the time, David and Katie developed a loving relationship. Speaking to People, David revealed that his relationship with Katie was different as he was not a part of her upbringing.

"Because I didn’t raise her, I didn’t have to parent her. I’m always here and totally nonjudgmental," said David. Katie, on the other hand, said, "To be able to go to someone I’m genetically linked to, tell them anything and know that they’re not going to judge me—it’s unbelievable."

David also guided her daughter as she followed his footsteps into the world of entertainment. He told her, "Do not work for money. Do not work for fame. Work for the work. And if you get a great role and they offer you nothing, take it."

However, their relationship turned tumultuous over the years. In an interview with People, the actor and singer praised his second child Beau but had very few words for his daughter. When asked about his relationship with her, he stated that he "never had" one. He added, "I wasn’t her father. I was her biological father but I didn’t raise her. She has a completely different life. She’s very talented. It’s hard for me to even accept how old she is now, like 30.”

The strained relationship of the father-daughter duo was even more apparent after his death. According to The Blast, David did not leave any of his $150,000 assets to his daughter in his will. The document stated, "all references in this Trust to my ‘child or children’ are to Beau Devin Cassidy and such references shall not include Katie Evelyn Cassidy...It is my specific intent not to provide any benefits hereunder to Katherine Evelyn Cassidy and/or any descendant of Katherine Evelyn Cassidy.”

However, Katie never showed any resentment towards her father for the way he treated her. “My biological father and I had a really good relationship at one point. He was one of my close friends and gave me wonderful advice," said Katie. She added, "My dad was a wonderful, wonderful person. Sadly, he had some demons. There is a silver lining in all of that. You live and learn and it has brought my family closer together so I’m grateful for that," according to Fox News.
