The "My So-Called Life" actress met her now-husband, 45-year-old Hugh Dancy, a British actor, while working on the 2007 movie "Evening".
Finding love is no straight course. Many people wander through it before meeting the person they are meant to spend their life with. Sometimes, our mellow feelings for another person can highlight our intense ones for another person. It can be an arrow in neon telling us who we actually love.
In current times, hardly anyone stays with the first person they felt attracted to. Many explore before finding their soulmate, and actress Claire Danes, 41, is one of them. The My So-Called Life actress met her now-husband, 45-year-old Hugh Dancy, a British actor, while working on the 2007 movie Evening. The couple fell in love in one of the most innocent ways. According to their Evening co-star Mamie Gummer, Danes and Dancy fell in love while playing Boggle and Scrabble, reports Bustle.
They married in 2009 in France, and the wedding was as low-key as their relationship has been. "I was there when it was happening and it's something that I will never forget. I'm incredibly happy for them. They are perfect for each other," Gummer said. They welcomed son, Cyrus, in 2012, and son, Rowan, in 2018. Their small family lives in New York City, where her hit TV show Homeland was being shot.
In the December 2014 issue of Glamour, the American actress gushed about her husband saying, "He is a gentleman. Downton Abbey-esque? I guess. He was raised well, went to great schools, he’s a clever guy and he makes me giggle... I scored. I lucked out, big-time! But when you’re truly intimate with somebody, they tend to lose their physical shape, you see through them. Occasionally I’ll wake up and notice his… form. And I’ll be, 'Oh, wow. Dude. Is a looker.' Then I get shy, all over again. It’s not why I love him, but it’s a very nice bonus."
She's not the only one who raves about their partner. However, Dancy had more to say about her as an actor.
"She tries to be very honest, without artifice, in what she does. And it is hard to do that and be interesting and create something big. I know from experience, and watching her now on set, that she is fantastic to work with, generous without trying to be generous," he said.
Recently, Danes revealed to Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert that before she started dating Dancy in 2007, there was someone else in her life. She had vowed to be single back then since she had dated "since the moment [she] hit puberty basically," according to CheatSheet. However, she had a one-night stand with an unnamed person and her "palate was cleansed".
After that, she could accept her feelings for her now-husband. When she went back to the set to shoot, she said to herself, "Oh s**t! I think I’m going to marry this person." After that, she says "the end of [her] life as a single person was realized."
According to E! News, the Hannibal actor, who didn't know that his wife had shared this story publicly, responded to her revelation, saying, "The first thing I should mention is that this is complete news to me, so I'm glad I can respond to it. I can only say that I'm really glad that my wife chose to have a one-night stand with an inadequate lover." Dancy added, "It could have gone either way, who knows?" His sense of humor seems unharmed after his wife's revelation.
He furnished more details about his wife's previous fling, adding, "We were not in a relationship when that happened, in fact. This is when I kind of edge into dangerous territory perhaps. But, it was kind of in the moment, I guess, when we were—I was single and she was single and we were both clearly thinking about it. But she was also thinking, I suppose—as one often does—‘Well, do I wanna jump back into another relationship?'"
Fortunately, for the Ella Enchanted star, it did go his way and now they have been married for 11 years. She ended the final season of Homeland with Dancy in it. And even though they didn't have any scenes together, she got to see him at work. "Watching your partner do something they are really good at, is so hot," she added.
