There was no one as important as her husband, René Angélil and Dion could not imagine a world without him.

The strength and purity of your love is seen by the way you treat each other in the relationship. Many at times, we see people become selfish when they see their partner going through a tough financial or physical struggle. Singer Celine Dion was, however, not one of them. Her love for husband, René Angélil was so strong that she was willing to give up her successful career to care for him.

Dion met Angélil when she was just 12 years old. Angélil, who spotted her incredible talent launched her into the entertainment world. He made her a star but soon, their relationship broke the professional boundaries. At the age of 19, Dion started dating Angélil in spite of their 26-year age gap. Soon after, the couple made their relationship official and tied the knot.

The duo started their journey together and were doing well. But, the first test for the couple arrived five years after their wedding. Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer. Dion did not think twice when she put away her singing and briefly retired to be with her husband.

Her husband went into remission, but the illness returned in 2015. Dion could watch the man she loved struggle alone. She decided to give up her successful career and sit by her husband's side. She released a statement apologizing to her fans. It stated, "I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children," according to the Daily Mail.

It further stated, "I also want to apologise to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support ... at this very difficult and stressful time.”

She saw her husband struggle through intense pain. He was her strongest pillar and even on his death bed, she saw him worrying about her, their children, and her career. According to Metro, the courageous mother of three assured him and said, "I got this."

On January 2016, her husband of more than 20 years bid farewell to the world, leaving her with their kids. “I closed the door, so the children wouldn’t sense anything. I got on my knees and I kissed him. It was the coldest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life, but it was amazing. I said, ‘Promise me not to worry. I’m fine, the kids are great, we’re gonna be okay. It’s enough suffering. Just go in peace'," said the singer, recalling the last moments, according to People.

She laid next to her husband's body and said, "You were worrying for my career. You were worrying for the children. You were worrying for everything. It's enough," according to ABC News

Dion could not believe that she had just lost the one and the only man she ever loved. Gathering her strength, she returned to the world of music. She knew her late husband wanted her to do just that.

Remembering her last days with him, she said, "We talked a lot and I took notes every day. I had my Post-its and my crayons and my book, and everything he wanted or questioned, or he thought of, I wrote it down," according to The Sun.

Addressing her year off, she stated, "The man who I love the most on this whole earth suffering so much. He did suffer for three years. A lot. I took a year off and I said, ‘My living well is to be with you, it’s not my career. You are my career, you are my life’." She continued, "That’s what a wife does, that’s what a mother does, that’s what a performer does. I took care of him the best way I could.”

Meanwhile, Dion lives with the memories of her husband. She feels his presence through their children. "Even though he’s not physically here, he’s part of me. I see him every day through the eyes of my children," said the singer, according to CBS.
