Britney Spears Is Engaged: "I Can't F*cking Believe It!"

The pair first met in 2016 and has been dating for over four years.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are ready to take their relationship to the next level. The two first met on the set of Spears' "Slumber Party" music video in 2016 and have been going steady for over four years. Spears, 39, and Asghari, 27, shared the happy news of their engagement on Instagram.

Asghari's manager Brandon Cohen told PEOPLE that he is "proud to celebrate and confirm the engagement." Cohen revealed that Spears' new ring was designed by N.Y.C. jeweler Roman Malayev adding that "He couldn't be happier to be involved and make this one-of-a-kind ring." As for the happy couple they " made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them," said Cohen.

Sam Asghari has been a vocal supporter of Britney during her fight to end her 13-year conservatorship. Earlier this year, Sam told PEOPLE, “I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves. I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together.” In a recent post, Spears shared a picture of the two with a caption: Britney wrote, “Not only has this cute asshole been with me through the hardest years of my life but he happens to be an extremely good cook 👨🏽‍🍳! Fast & Furious franchise, don’t miss out on your next star." While many supporters were happy for the singer, Octavia Spencer and others pushed the star to sign a prenup. Asghari cheekily responded saying, "Thank you everyone is concerned about The prenup! Of course we're getting iron clad prenup to protect my jeep and shoe collection in case she dumps me one day [crying while laughing emojis]."

The Iranian-born actor opened up about his relationship with Spears in a March interview with Forbes, saying, "My priorities in life are to remain humble and understand where I came from and where I'm going. I want to take my career to the next step when it comes to acting. I want to take my relationship to the next step, as well. I don't mind becoming a father. I want to be a young dad." A source previously told PEOPLE that Asghari was the singer's "rock." "Sam has been Britney's rock for years. He makes sure that she eats well and works out. "She leans on him for everything. He works and has his own life too, but is around as much as he can."

Their announcement comes days after Britney Spears'  father and the conservator of her estate, Jamie Spears, filed a petition to end the court-ordered conservatorship. A court filing obtained by CNN stated, "Recent events related to this conservatorship have called into question whether circumstances have changed to such an extent that grounds for the establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist." It added, "As Mr. Spears has said, again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter. If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance." In July this year, the pop star said that she wanted to press charges against her father for "conservatorship abuse" and called the arrangement "f---ing cruelty." According to the outlet, a previously scheduled hearing in the case is set for September 29.
