The bride wanted to include her daughter in the wedding in some way. "She didn't plan it. If she did, she didn't tell anyone about it," said the bride's sister.
Every bride imagines that one moment over and over again, the moment where she holds their father's hand and walks down the aisle with eyes locked on the groom waiting at the other end. Most brides do all that they can to make it a moment they will never forget. But this bride from Tennessee made sure that every single guest at the wedding would find it hard to forget.
The bride, Shona Carter-Brooks from Jackson, gave her guests an unusual surprise by walking down the aisle with her daughter placed on the train of her dress. "She didn't plan it. If she did, she didn't tell anyone about it," her sister, Marcy Wright said, according to WREG.
The little one named Aubrey, who was just a month when the wedding took place in 2014, was lying on her side as she was led down the aisle by her mother.
While guests were surprised to see the sight, a number of people who saw the photograph on social media believed that it was inappropriate, with some calling it "classless" and "incredibly dangerous."
"I am sorry but if I would have saw that I would have gotten out of my seat and taken that baby. That is truly dumb," said one person on the website Clutch, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
When the picture resurfaced on Reddit, PiccChicc commented saying, "I'm no expert, but I am pretty sure babies are supposed to be kept off the floor and a bit further from it at this age..."
Defending her idea of making her daughter a part of her wedding ceremony, Shona wrote on Facebook, "The answer is we do what we want when we want long as Jesus on our side everything worked out fine and gone continue to be fine. Our 1 month old was awake and well secured on my train. Most important while yall got ya feelings in us we had our hearts in Christ which covers all!! So keep ya mouths running for it was just that Exclusive and Epic enough we made top blog way from small town Ripley, TN and the social media doing what they do, TALK!!!!"
Members of the family also added that Aubrey wasn't dragged down all the way to the end of the aisle while laying on the train.
"People just saw the picture and said, 'Oh! The baby's being dragged up the aisle!' The baby was not dragged," Shona's cousin, Jeffrey Preston said. "The baby was laid on the train for a photo shot of them coming into the church."
While talking about the many comments that the photograph received, Jeffrey added, "People are blowing it out of proportion, like she had her baby by the arm just dragging it down the aisle," while Marcy said, "Some of it is just outrageous and ridiculous".
One friend who attended the wedding shared, "Shona and Johnathan Brooks your wedding was super perfect from the groom and his men and you and your diva’s baby you rock the gown and the princess tagging behind you it brought tears to my eyes. Regardless of anybody else dream your’s came true. I loved it and thank you for inviting me."
"I thought it was beautiful," said Jeffrey. "If we could do it again, we'd do it again!"
