After 3 Years Of Anticipation, Bride-To-Be Heartbroken When Family Asks Her To Let Sister Have Wedding Venue

A bride took to Reddit to share her story. She told users how her family turned against her because she didn't want to give away her wedding date and venue.

From the moment he pops the question to the day you walk down the aisle, as a bride-to-be, your wedding is undoubtedly the most anticipated day, not just for you and your partner but also for your family. After all, everyone knows the kind of time and effort that goes into making it the happiest day of your life. But for one 28-year-old bride, the date she had picked and the venue she had chosen was about to be hijacked, and she would have none of it.

According to Daily Mail, the 28-year-old was asked to give up the day she was looking forward to for the sake of her younger sister. The bride-to-be, who had booked the venue years in advance and had been planning her big day quite enthusiastically was heartbroken when her family tried to talk her into giving it up. As it turns out, her younger sister, who had also been recently engaged, was pregnant.

When she told them she could not accept the demand, her family turned against her. The user told her story on Reddit. She had been engaged three years ago and had held back on tying the knot due to her Ph.D. program. But that did not stop her from planning the big day. The bride-to-be, who knew what she wanted, booked her dream venue years in advance to avoid any last-minute issues. She even paid all her wedding vendors and was looking forward to her big day in Septemeber 2019, when the unexpected happened.

“Yesterday our parents invited us and our significant others to a family bbq, where my sister announced to our extended family that she is expecting. Everyone was so happy for her and my brother-in-law (who is a great guy),” wrote the bride. However, after the announcement, her 23-year-old sister came up with a request that changed everything.

"I was really, really hoping we could kinda like take your venue? I really can not stress myself too much with planing a wedding while going to maternity classes. And I think it is so beautiful! It would really mean a lot to me," said the little sister to the bride. The bride, taken aback by her sister's request, told her family that it was a big deal for her and that she had already waited for too long to get married on her dream venue.

Her answer was not welcomed by her family members. While the sister stormed out of the place, her grandmother blamed the bride accusing her of being a selfish sister. “Nan told me that I was being selfish because she needed the venue more than I did. I tried to defend myself and my mother said, ‘You waited 3 years. Would it have killed you to wait a few more months? When has your sister ever asked you for something?’” wrote the bride.

The poor bride was even blamed by her father who even said he would not walk her down the aisle.

However, her brother-in-law seemed to understand what she was going through. The bride told Reddit user that the feud took to another level and her fiance who was furious left the gathering. “My sister called me crying and said that it was unfair that I always get what I want and that I could have done this one thing for her. Dad said it is just a venue and what matters is the person who you are marrying. He is kind of right... but we have been planning for so long,” wrote the bride.

She further said that the fight was still not resolved and she was not sure if her family would attend her wedding. "My family is baby crazy," wrote the bride on Reddit.

Her story invited a lot of comments. Reddit users were clearly not impressed by the bride's younger sister. "You are getting married next month and your sister wants to hijack it. I cannot even believe your parents are supporting this selfish behavior. Screw all of them. Keep your wedding as planned," wrote one angry user.  Others said that her parents should help the younger sister plan a wedding than asking their other daughter to make a sacrifice. Some even praised the bride for sticking to her initial plans and not giving up her years of hard work.
