Antonio Banderas Reveals His Love For Ex-wife Melanie Griffith Will Never End | "Will Love Her Until The Day I Die"

Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith divorced after 20 years of marriage. But their relationship only became stronger.

Romantic relationships may not always have a happy ending. But that does not mean you have to move away from your partner or despise them. After all, you shared a great bond with them and loved them for who they are. Antonio Banderas has a loving relationship with his ex-wife Melanie Griffith. Though their marriage lasted only for a couple of years, they still have a solid bond.

Banderas fell for the Something Wild actress when he saw her at the Academy Awards in 1989. "The first time I went to the Academy Awards after we got a nomination for Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, we got on the red carpet and I saw this blonde woman and I knew her because I saw movies of her, but I didn’t remember [her name] at the time. So, I said to Pedro [Almodóvar], 'Who is she? Who is she? What is her name?' Pedro said, 'That’s Melanie Griffith!' I said, 'That’s it. Oh my God.' Six years later, I was married to her," recalled the 59-year-old actor, according to Vulture. In May 1996, the couple walked down the aisle and began a new chapter in their life.

They had a beautiful life and even had a daughter together. However, the two separated in 2015 after 20-years of marriage. But that wasn't the end of their strong bond. "My life was fast and fascinating if I actually see it in retrospective. I remember those years as very effervescent and really beautiful. I am not married with Melanie anymore but she is my family. She is probably one of my best friends, if not the best friend that I have," said the actor, according to Vulture.

It might sound surprising but the actor has repeatedly made similar statements about his ex-wife. Speaking to People, the Desperado actor said, "Melanie is not my wife anymore, but I think she is my best friend." He added, "I love her and will love her until the day I die. She’s my family."

Not only does he consider her family, but he still is a father figure to Griffith's children from her previous marriage. The actor revealed, "I was there because I love their mother and I am totally taken with their mother and they were the most important part of what she came with. Very soon they understood that. They called me Paponio, a mixture between Papa and Antonio," according to People.

In addition to the respect and love, the divorced couple continues to share quality time together along with their kids. They are also seen wishing each other on social media for their birthdays. “We have been in contact all these years and we managed to do a separation that is very elegant,” said Banderas to People. He added, "Our kids are enjoying that and that is very important for both of us. Our kids are priority number one." Though he stays in London with his girlfriend, the actor says he loves going to Los Angeles to see his kids and ex-wife. He refers to it as his home.
