Alex Trebek and his wife Jean shares a beautiful marriage. The couple is fighting cancer together since March 2019.
Seeing your loved one struggling in life is not easy for any person. It breaks your heart but all you can do is to stand by their side as a constant pillar of support. Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek is fortunate to have such a partner. His wife, Jean has been with him through thick and thin for over 30 years. However, the news of his cancer that came out in March 2019 was more than she could bear. In a recent interview with Good Morning America, the devout wife revealed the hardest part of their cancer struggle as a couple.
"For me, it’s when I see him in pain and I can’t help him. When he doesn’t eat right. When he has too much diet soda." said the 55-year-old, according to People. She expressed how she could only helplessly watch him go through the pain. Jean also told the interviewer that she would be happy if Trebek took a break from the famous game show. However, she said she wants to support her husband's decision to continue on the show and also argued that it gave him a sense of purpose.
“Yes, to my girlfriends, yes.” But I know its what feeds him. He loves doing Jeopardy!. He has his own family over there. They are such a close-knit, beautiful group of people. I think that gives him a lot of support. A sense of purpose and that he’s just not in bed and can be productive" said Jean. While this is the first time Jean has talked about the emotional aspect of dealing with her husband's battle with cancer, Trebek has previously spoken of it.
Last year, the host revealed that the cancer battle had been difficult for his wife. He said, "Its always tough for the caretakers because she has to deal with her worrying for my wellbeing and also dealing with... I’m not always the most pleasant person to be around when I am experiencing severe pain and depression, and she has to tread lightly around me." However, he credited his wife for easing his pain with her unflinching support and encouragement. He added, “They’ve also got to be strong and not allow their mate not to feel like they’re downhearted too.”
He even shared how the news of his tumor-shrinking in August 2019, left her wife in tears. "Jeannie is wonderful. She cried, of course, this morning when she got the [good] news [about my tumors shrinking]. But it’s been a lot. It’s a lot of pressure," said the host.
While the 79-year-old is still under chemotherapy and battling the deadly disease, he hopes to continue the show with the support of his lovely wife. The couple shares a lovely marriage and Trebek recently said, he wished he knew her much earlier. “I’m pretty satisfied with my life. But my wife Jean and I have been together almost 29 years...oh my gosh... if I’d just met Jean in my 20s, we could have had a longer life together,” said Trebek.
It is no doubt that the couple shares a unique love and admiration for each other in spite of their tough times.
