Adopted 6th Grader Who Had Never Had A Birthday Party Of His Own Gets Emotional Surprise On His Special Day

Abraham Walker and his brother James were adopted from Sierra Leone by a North Carolina family.

Abraham Walker never knew what a birthday meant until his adopted family decided to surprise him on his special day. Walker and his brother James were adopted from Sierra Leone by a family from Waxhaw, North Carolina. The couple, Jamie and Joe Walker welcomed their sons from the orphanage in November 2021. Along with their four biological children, their new life has been “chaotic and wonderful.”

“It’s absolutely magical and amazing because you think about the first time you take a toddler through, and they’re like in awe. And some kids hate it. It’s the same, only they’re old enough to verbalize how crazy this experience is,” said Jamie of the boys' new experiences in America, according to QUEEN CITY NEWS. They've been fascinated by their first real haircuts, their first day of school, and even their first car wash. But nothing came quite as close as Abraham's birthday surprise on May 19th.

The family wasn't sure how old Abraham is but they celebrated it regardless. “They don’t take paperwork very seriously in the country where they come from, so their birth certificates have them as what we think is a little older than what they actually are,” said Jamie. When the family surprised the youngster with a birthday cake, Abraham broke down in tears. “We never knew about something called a birthday,” said Abraham. “It just feels like God is showing all the blessings in you. Everybody in the whole world is giving you their best love that they have ever given. That is what it feels like to have that cake.”

Recalling his days on the streets in Sierra Leone, the youngster said he had prayed for a family who would love and take care of him. He never knew if his prayers would ever be answered... But they were. “I love them more than they can ever imagine in the world. They’re the ones that showed me to the world, and showed me what happiness is, and showed me what love is, and showed me what it means to have a family around you. I really, really want to say thank you to them for that,” he said. Jamie shared the video of Abraham's emotional reaction on TikTok. She captioned it: Abraham has never “made a wish” or blown out candles on his very own cake! This is what JOY looks like!! And we couldn't agree more! To many more wonderful birthdays for Abraham, filled with tons of love and family all around.
