8YO Girl Dies In 4th Of July Parade Car Accident In Utah, She Was Tragically Run Over During Performance

A float Macie Hill was riding on was struck by a vehicle that was part of the procession.

8-year-old Macie Hill, the youngest of four children, died after being hit by a vehicle during a Fourth of July parade in Utah, according to her family. The young girl was allegedly on a float with her Patriot Cheer All-Stars dance team just before the accident. She died of injuries suffered during the tragic accident at the parade in Kaysville, which is about 20 miles north of Salt Lake City, Jennie Dopp a neighbor said on GoFundMe.

Dopp explained that "Macie was the youngest in her family and a princess to her three older brothers and her parents. Macie was full of life and showed joy and love to everyone. Macie's dad said she loved her Patriot Cheer team. She loved cheering and Macie passed away doing what she loved, being with her team. The family would like to express their thanks to all of the first responders and members of the community who jumped in to help Macie. They would also like to thank the compassionate staff at Layton Parkway Hospital for the tender care they provided to Macie and to her family in the most devastating of circumstances."

The GoFundMe page is asking if anyone can help donate to the grieving family for "funeral expenses, a headstone, medical facility charges, and counseling for members of the family." So far it has raised, $102,749. According to PEOPLE, Kaysville Fire Department confirmed the incident on Facebook that the parade ended early "due to a medical emergency" on Main Street, which was described as "an auto-pedestrian accident involving a parade vehicle and a participant." “This is a truly tragic event,” Officer Lexi Benson with the Kaysville Police Department said per KKTV. “You know, this is a day to celebrate and celebrate families, a day that’s supposed to be fun. And it’s turned into something that’s been really sad and our hearts not only go out to the victim’s family but everybody that witnessed what happened.”

A resident named Shawna Dennis witnessed the terrifying incident and told Fox 13, "I don't think people understood the seriousness of the situation at first," she explained, adding that the sight left her "in shock." “I glared up and I see a little girl that was laying on the ground in that little dance company, and the trailer, the back trailer, just ran over the top of her," Dennis said. The family is grieving tremendously but they find some solace in knowing "that she was doing what she loved, and she was just all smiles and all excitement all the way,” Ryan Dopp, a family spokesperson.
